Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Villegas.
Martha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Like many in this country, my parents immigrated to the U.S for a better way of life. They arrived here in the early 80’s from El Salvador. With that knowing, I always felt a deep desire to do my best in school. I wanted my parent’s sacrifices and hard work to not be in vain. I studied hard and graduated at the top of my class in high school and then went on to attend the University of Houston. I majored in Consumer Science and Merchandising, thinking I wanted a career in the retail world. About three years in I joined a Network Marketing company (you know, one of those pyramid things lol). and even though I did not achieve the success I wanted too with it, it definitely was part of the plan. Because of it, my mind awakened to the world of entrepreneurship and I also met the love of my life David.
After two years of working hard in the network marketing company, I decided it was time to go back to school and finish my degree. And so I did just that, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from U of H back in 2015. But before I had even graduated, I had an inner knowing my degree wouldn’t truly come in handy and I was ok with that. I still wanted to finish. I was so close.
Because of the network marketing company, I was a part of I discovered the world of self-help. I fell in love! I knew there was something special about this field and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I dove into the work of the greats, such as Tony Robbins, Napolean Hill, Jack Canfield, Dale Carnegie, etc. It lit a fire in me to share what I was learning with the world. I then knew I wanted to be a life coach. I started making YouTube videos, posting a video each week. I started a blog to share my passion about becoming your best self.
Then in January 2018, I set an intention. I told myself this was the year I would go ALL in with my life coaching business. I love how the Universe works because as soon as I started taking the necessary steps, I knew I needed to take another major shift occurred.
My boyfriend David had been in real estate for a few years and a few months into 2018, we had a talk about building our real estate business together. Mind you I never had an interest in real estate but something deep within me knew this was the right path. And so off we went! And that is one piece of advice I would love to share, is to listen to your intuition. We are all much more powerful than we realize and we have what you can call an inner GPS system that guides our every step. If something feels right even if it might not make sense trust your inner knowing.
I am now a real estate investor and on the path to building generational wealth. We have now been in business a little over a year now. (and we also have a tax office located in Pasadena) I have never felt so aligned in my life before. When your starting your own business having a strong vision is a must. That is one thing that keeps me so excited on the path that I’m in. Building a business and the type of lifestyle with the person you love is also very rewarding. Looking back, I now see how everything happens in divine order and divine timing.
All the personal growth I’ve done since 2011 is invaluable when it comes to building our business. Because I believe the number 1 thing that determines your success is your mindset. If I could give someone advice that knows they are meant to do big things in the world it would be this: It all starts with you and your beliefs. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and remember that your path does not have to look like everybody else.
Has it been a smooth road?
Struggles are a part of life. There are lessons we need to learn. One lesson I’ve learned is to not get hung up on certain deadlines you might place on goals but to remember its all a process. I’ve had to learn to enjoy the journey and remember to be present and not so focused on arriving. There is a quote I love that says, “Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait and wait without anxiety.” — Gabrielle Bernstein
I take these words to heart. Life is one big beautiful journey of creating ourselves and going after our desires and ultimately, the journey is what builds who we are.
Learning to prioritize has also been a major challenge. We all live busy lives. We have so much going on between our relationships, business, jobs, health, etc. I’ve learned that time is our greatest asset and sometimes sacrifices are required. Prioritizing self-care has been a major focus for me the last few months. It all starts with you.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
