Hi Martin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve always loved candles. I would buy a candle after finishing another one. I’ve always wanted to walk into my house and have a pleasant smell. For it to be inviting. Regardless if I have company or not. I traveled to Tennessee with a friend and they took me into a candle shop and I fell in love. It was then I knew I wanted to SELL candles. Making them wasn’t on my radar at that moment. I returned to Houston and eventually called that shop owner and asked had he ever thought about opening a shop in Houston. He responded NO. But he told me he franchised and the buy in at that time was $10K which supplied me with all his product in different increments. At that moment, I started thinking that I needed $10K because that’s what I wanted to do..
I was working in the medical center at the time and my job had an entrepreneurial day when employees could bring their product to the corp office and sell them. And because I wanted to open a candle shop selling this guys product, I paid $25 for the entrepreneurial day which as about two months out and turned around and bought 4 candles from this guy only to display/smell and to see just to see what people thought about the scents. Long story short, I missed the event and received the candles two weeks afterwards. It was then I started researching what it took to make candles and then I got started and yes, I hit my head a few times in the beginning, but I haven’t looked back since. I just been perfecting my craft to make my product better. And along the way, God has blessed me with other products and ideas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My first and foremost struggle is staying focused and keep grinding in my business. I’ve learned to be self motivating because along the way I didn’t have anyone there to cheer me on and encourage me. Being a single parent raising three girls, many times I felt like I was in a circus balancing act. The struggle was so real many of times. I’m very grateful to God that he saw me through.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I truly pour my candles from my heart. I take great pride in what I do and try to deliver what I would want in a candle !! The creativity with me are my mixtures. They set me apart from your traditional candles. I do gear most of my scents towards men because most candles are geared to women. But my fragrances set me apart because I have some custom scents that are truly amazing. I’m known for my scents and how different they are. People love the fact that I offer men scents.

In due time, I will open a storefront (s) and I will make a statement here in Houston !!
