Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Munoz.
Hi Martin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First, we are two brothers with the same name, Martin Munoz, which for Munoz Bros. (Martin David Munoz, and Martin Enrique Munoz). We started Yo’z Moon Production (YMP) to put a name to projects we have already been producing. Starting with music, venturing to live performances in Houston, and also filmmaking, there was no project too small, or too big. We have worked on several local festivals and productions, to include Houston Latin Fest, Taste of Caribbean Festival, and Limitless Co. Since then, YMP is developing into a one-stop-shop for creative direction, Latin artistry, and digital media production.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
COVID-19. Health concerns, local venue closures, job changes, and unpredictable weather conditions, YMP struggled to remain relevant during our first official year of operation while surviving this global pandemic. We used this time to organize our projects, learn the benefits of virtual productions, and develop procedures for safety protocols during live performances.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
YMP bridges the gap between the community and digital media production. We specialize in making intangible ideas into tangible projects. It is truly a small production world in local production! We are currently working with a few people that you have done articles about already. We are working on projects with Raquel Sims (La’Meria Media), Suzan Nguyen (Public Figure), and Ferrel Phelps (Celebrity Photographer). We have submitted productions to the 48 Hour Film Project, Austin Film Festival, and Nasa’s CineSpace, where our projects will be in circulation with Space Channel. The things we are most proud of are our involvement in the community, the development of the local media footprint, and the overall enjoyment in what we do. It took us time, yet we have been disciplined in sharpening our skills, while learning new ones. We are thrilled about our progress as we position YMP, and climb the media ladder, as leaders in our local production industry.
What sets us apart from others is how we reach out to small local businesses to find ways that we all can work together as a network of entrepreneurs, artisans, and media based organizations. This way we begin to have discussions about common visions, projects, and challenges to overcome as a team in Houston. The key is helping each other grow as a community, and essentially a family, during this process.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Safety first! The seriousness of hygiene and disinfecting common areas. Complying with safety requirements, using masks, and social distancing, especially during our live performances. We have learned the value of being patient, using the downtime to plan productions more effectively, and the need to remain positive even when surrounded by so much negativity due to hardships caused by the pandemic. We learned to be sensitive to others while continuing scheduled productions with new challenges. One interesting thing we learned was how to use virtual technology to showcase productions. The show must go on, and we found ways to continue!
