Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Osborne.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started surfing professionally when I was around 18 years old. I was fortunate enough to travel the globe in search of perfect waves and culture. When I was 25, I started my own surf camp to share the love of the sport with others. I have been running my camps & international surf escapes for about 10 years now. It has been quite the journey and all stems from my passion of surfing. My goal is to teach others about the sport, share our surf lifestyle & take people out of their comfort zone by doing something healthy and fun.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had lots of bumps in the road. I would say my biggest one was when I found out my ex-fiance was living a separate life. At the time, I was flourishing and trying to build my business. However, once things hit with my ex, everything kind of fell apart. I healed, recovered slowly and built my business back up. I worked every day to build my clientele, make my business more unique and capture a new audience. I learned so much about psychology that I was able to read people better and be more understanding of my clients. From this awful situation, I was able to grow and become much more successful than I could have imagined.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mary Osborne INC – what should we know?
It all started with summer surf camps for kids. From there I built international surf & yoga retreats (one with Keith Mitchell), overnight teen programs called Surfari, and lots of day ladies events. I specialized in creating events that are built around surfing, health, and lifestyle. My international trips are mainly for adults. My goal is to create an experience that you can’t get with a travel agent. Every location we go to is because I have built relationships with locals. I am able to really immerse my clients in the local culture and show them the world in a different light. I also have my teen overnight Surfari’s. They are my passion because I love working with young girls age 11-15. The program is a 5 night overnight camp in a gorgeous beachfront private location. The girls live together in the house. We surf every day, visit local businesses, do local excursions (horseback riding, Channel Island visits) and every night is a female motivational speaker. We have had celebrities, pro athletes, meditations, famous chefs… you name it, I will bring them in to inspire the teens. There is no other program like this for young girls. This year, I had 16 teens from all over the globe – Japan, Canada, Denver, Texas, Florida, Calfornia. It is so exciting to see my programs grow and know that they make an impact on young teens for the positive.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am very personable and I work harder than any girl I know. I love people, sharing my passion with them and learning from my clients.
