Meet Mary and Jon Tjon-Joe-Pin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary and Jon Tjon-Joe-Pin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mary and Jon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2015 we welcomed our first child. At the same time, Jon Pierre was on a road of self-discovery. After 15 years of being in the oil industry, he decided to leave his job in pursuit of finding his passion. The goal was to do something that we can do as a family. While Mary was still working as a Flight Attendant at American Airlines, Jon Pierre was home with the Harper and studying to get his Real Estate license. The goal was to learn all he could about the real estate market so we could use that information to build our own business. Once he obtained his license and starting building clients, we started our business, which we named after our daughter. Harper Raine Homes LLC. Deciding to flip our first house was a stressful one, but we went for it.

Although we did lose on this first house, we learned so much from experience. Since that first one, we never lost again. Before we started our third home, we received a message from a production company. We, of course, thought it was fake, so we didn’t respond for quite some time. After doing some research on the company, we decided to reach out, and we’re happy we did!! After going through the entire process we were chosen to do a pilot episode. At the same time we had also welcomed our second child, Grayson Skye. A year later, we filmed six more episodes of our very own show on HGTV entitled “Going For Sold.” All in all, it was a two year journey from the start of our pilot to the series airing! We are in the 4th year of business and have flip and/or renovated over 40 homes all over the Houston area.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business can be scary! We have made many sacrifices and took tremendous risk along this journey. We lost thousands of dollars on our first flip house. Instead of quitting, we took the loss and pushed forward. We learned to listen to our gut and put houses on the market that stand out and allow the market to dictate the price.

Please tell us about the business.
Our business Harper Raine Homes LLC, is a home design and investment company. We flip, rejuvenate, and remodel homes. Mary is the head of our design department. She designs and stages all of our homes as well, and since the end of our show, she is now designing for clients and choosing the finishing details and furnishings in their homes. Jon heads the construction department and oversees the daily operation of our business. He brings functionality to the home by finding a way to create more space. He is also a realtor who sells and helps future homeowners find the home of their dreams.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We just put out a casting call looking for homeowners to appear with us on HGTV that are wanting to sell their existing home in pursuit of a fixer upper. We are so excited to not only continue our journey but to share it with others in our great city!
