I’ve always had a huge interest in photography, but I would say my true photography journey started after my son was born. Prior to his birth, I worked full time as a counselor. I literally went from talking to people all day long to staring at this beautiful baby that did absolutely nothing but sleep. I love him to death, but my brain was turning to mush at a rapid pace!
My amazing husband heard me when I said I needed something to engage my brain and surprised me with my very first DSLR camera, a Canon Rebel T6i, and I got to work learning everything I possibly could. I used every resource I had available- I watched YouTube, read blogs for hours on end, attended workshops, and learned from other local creatives! I tried out different types of photography until I found something that truly lit my soul on fire- WEDDINGS!
I have continued to hone my craft, acquire top of the line gear, and built MHP into one of the most sought after Wedding Photography companies in the area!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely been a tough road with many struggles! Not only have I had to learn the nuances of running a business, but I’m also learning how to be a parent to two children while being my own boss. Juggling the ever imperfect work-life balance and knowing when to just shut down the computer is a constant struggle.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing! Everything along my journey has led me right to this point, and I’m loving where I’m at.
