Meet Meredith Jurica of Makeup Junkie Bags in The Woodlands and Conroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Jurica.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About a year and a half ago I made myself a lay flat medial zip cosmetic bag because I couldn’t find anything on the market to house modern day cosmetics (large pallets etc).

Everybody kept asking me where I got it they couldn’t find anything like in the market so I told them that I made it. Word spread like wildfire and in the first few weeks I had hundreds of orders from people I didn’t even know. I decided to start a little home-based bag business out of my kitchen and opened up an LLC and used all the profits to buy equipment and hire more people to help me.

Fast forward a year and a half and my bags are in over 1300 stores nationwide and I employ dozens of people here locally… we have a beautiful office. I have a design patent on my bag. It’s truly a fairy tale! All these amazing things kept happening like a writer for USA Today bought one and loved it and published about me! Our customers turned into a cult-like following and the bags just kind of went viral.

Has it been a smooth road?
Having no background in business (I have a bachelors and Masters degree in speech pathology that’s what I did before this). I definitely had some expensive tuition in the school of hard knocks trying to teach myself how to run and operate my own manufacturing company. I’ve been swindled, I’ve been stolen from and have made many mistakes. They have made me stronger and much wiser and I’m grateful for that.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Makeup Junkie Bags story. Tell us more about the business.
So proud have to completely right here in the greater Houston area they also come with a lifetime warranty because they’re such high-quality and durable and we are known for a red carpet style customer service. I most proud about the philanthropy we do. Last year I donated more than I actually took home. When God gives you a million dollar business out of the clear blue sky it’s like I never want a day to go by where he doesn’t know how much I appreciate all the blessings.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We’ve seen a big shift to online sales so perhaps a bigger shipping department haha.
