Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Green.
Mia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Coming up, I was always told to go to college and get a degree. In May of 2017, I did just that; I graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a degree in Business. It wasn’t until 2018 I got my first taste of corporate America. Honestly, it was not my favorite thing in the world, and so the desire to start my own Business began. I would always wonder what my craft or passion was. I started and stopped so many different things that I’ve lost count. One day I sat down and said, “I want to start doing nails,” so I did. At first, I was worried about what my peers would think of being that they were all corporate individuals with Fortune 500 companies, but at some point, I just stopped caring. In July of 2019, I officially started doing nails, and I was so excited to be creative as I wanted to be.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been rough. It was very hard to build my clientele since a lot of people already have their favorite nail tech or favorite nail salon. I remember getting my first bad review, and that was the biggest thing in the world to me, but it made me shift my focus on how I could better myself. I have felt more emotions becoming an entrepreneur that I have ever felt in my entire life. It’s a roller coaster sometimes, there are days where I’m booming and some days where it’s slow, but it’s okay. It’s all a part of Business.
We’d love to hear more about your Business.
I am a nail tech. I offer full sets, refills, overlays, and soak offs. I do not use any harsh chemicals with any of my products. I am most proud of the quality of my work and the ability for my clients and me to be creative together. What sets my business apart from others is nail education. A lot of times, when you walk to in a nail shop, you get your nails or feet done, and you leave without being informed on how you can take care of your nails or have healthier nails. I always try to educate my clients on nail care to get their real nails healthier. I also create a comfortable environment where clients of age can drink and listen to the music of their choice. When you book an appointment, you are booking an experience.
What were you like growing up?
I come from a large family, and we did not have the best of everything growing up, but my parents made a way. I knew I did not want to be at home all the time, so I became active in sports by the age of eight. I was in sports. I ran track and played basketball. The track was my favorite, and I pretty much ran year round in between school track, summer track, and cross country. I was very competitive but also very quiet. I had a lot of friends, but most times I stayed to myself. I always did good in school and was active in different organizations throughout the years in high school.
