Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Cabler.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mona. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a native Houstonian and spent most of my corporate life in the technology industry including helping to build a startup to a company bought by a major corporation for $350 million seven years later. It was at that company where I met my husband of 20 years. He now works in the geophysical industry. I have been involved in animal rescue for many years and he most recently served on the board for United Against Human Trafficking for six years. We are also involved with our church and I am a mentor in the school district. Spending much of our time and money doing philanthropic work we came up with the idea of hosting concerts in our home with each show benefiting a small local charity.
Pearland House Concerts (PHC) was formed in 2016 by Mona Cabler and James Adams, who wanted to merge their love for music with their desire to support charitable organizations in their community. Opening their home to musicians and bringing awareness to causes they care deeply about has been the perfect solution! Many of the artists we host are grammy-winning including singer-songwriters and various genres of music. The shows are casual, intimate and provide an opportunity to chat with the artists, take photos, etc. Dinner is a potluck with a theme and guests can bring something to share if they like or not. Water and tea are provided and guests are welcome to BYOB. We also typically have raffle items and all of those proceeds benefit the selected charity.
Since inception we have donated over $20,000 to local charities while supporting live music and providing quality entertainment and a nice evening out to all who attend.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think most of what I’ve learned in life was through trial and error and life experience. Growing a startup business gave me experience in many areas, then I spent about a decade rehabbing and selling real estate and also being a landlord – that is a whole different set of experiences!! I took care of both of my grandsons when they were babies and now, most recently, am responsible for booking artists, planning meals and raffles, promoting tickets sells and arranging most all of the details around making our house concerts run successfully. Has it been a smooth road? I’d say no, but I am pretty well rounded and have been fortunate to live a full, blessed life!
Please tell us about Pearland House Concerts.
BeyondGenerosity dba Pearland House Concerts was created from the premise we can all do more. There are numerous house concert venues in Texas and throughout the US. Many are hosted to support live music, which in itself is a worthy cause. We negotiate a fee with the artist upfront then everything raised beyond that goes to the charity. The charity will typically receive $500 – $2000 which is impactful for many small charities. We also provide a table for the charity to share materials and give them an opportunity to speak at the break so we are also helping them raise awareness.
I am proud of the work we are doing while also providing great local entertainment.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe there is a place for live music and philanthropy in every community. I think Houston is a great city full of opportunity and an amazing sense of community.
