Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadita Singh-Ganesh.
Nadita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In June 2017 the spark for Teacups & Saucers was ignited. After making a decision to not convert my UK qualification in Optometry to the US equivalent, I began thinking of business ideas where I could combine something I am passionate about with my new life as a Mom at home. Having two daughters obviously had a role to play in the path I followed with Tea Parties and I knew early on, I wanted my specialty to be completely unique. I wanted my business to personify some of my past (years spent in England) and my present (my daughters).
I’ve loved the concept of High Tea during my nine years living in the UK. I have visited every year since I left in 2013 and each time, Afternoon Tea in London and Tea shopping in Fortnum & Mason are two of my top priorities.
After two years of various opportunities and Tea parties at multiple locations around Houston, I feel fortunate to have created great relationships with other small businesses, venues and other mompreneurs. Houston is known for having many young families, so naturally, it’s been a great market for Princess Tea Parties, Birthday Celebrations, Baby Sprinkles and Bridal Events. Our biggest demand is for little girls’ Tea Parties and second to that is Champagne High Tea for adults.
In addition to preparing almost all of the food and teatime desserts for our Tea Parties, I obtained a qualification from the ITEI institute in Tea Blending & Flavoring last year. Now I enjoy creating unique hand-blended loose-leaf Teas and have been creating one of a kind blends for our High Tea events.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business with a 1 and 3-year-old was no walk in the park. I am quite meticulous so finding the time to initially start up a Small Business in a foreign country was the biggest challenge to date. Once all the details were in place, we felt very blessed that everything else has been smooth.
I continue to draw a fine line between managing my family and household and running a business on my own, but honestly, I won’t have it any other way.
The encouragement of close family and friends, my faith and having the benefit of a very supportive husband, has allowed my dream to come to life.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Teacups & Saucers – what should we know?
Teacups & Saucers specializes in Tea Parties. This alone makes us quite unique in Texas with regards to the Events and Party Business. Tea and Tea time food are our main focus. We are mobile, meaning we take everything needed for a proper Tea party at the chosen location. Some customers host in their homes or backyards, or we utilize spaces at clubhouses, restaurants, cafes and spas.
The Porcelain tea sets, server wear, teatime food, hand-blended loose leaf tea and formal tableware are provided to create a special teatime setting. For kids parties, hats, boas, pearl necklaces and white gloves are provided for fancy Teatime attire.
As of last year, we are proud to offer our own loose-leaf Tea blends. Some can be purchased and some are unique to only a single Tea party.
Teacups & Saucers has grown and expanded more rapidly than we ever anticipated. We take great pride in having a niche in the events market and being specialized in Teatime for all ages.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance and attention to the most minute details has been critical to our success. Our customers have varying tastes and numerous specific requests. It’s amazing how the very littlest party detail can impact a customer’s overall view on one of our events.
I am a people person; I have always been. I love meeting and working with new customers and I have a lot of gratitude towards them trusting me to do an event for them.
