Meet Naomi Melton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Melton.

Naomi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an aptitude for working in “entertainment” in general. As a little girl, I started taking dance classes and I knew I had something special when my middle school dance teacher, Michelle Dorsey, said to me, “you have a natural gift so never stop dancing.” I’ve held onto those words ever since.

I became the co captain of my high school dance team and I ultimately landed a spot with a professional hip hop company in Houston called “Planet Funk” under the direction of Shawn Welling. During my time with the company, I was privileged to meet tons of people and be trained and taught by world-renowned choreographers such as Dave Scott and Brian Friedman.

My experience with dance and Planet Funk led me to become an independent choreographer where I have helped local artists choreograph stage shows opening up for artists such as Ray J, Young Joc, and Melanie Fiona.

I wanted to expand my career so in 2013, my career took a turn when I was presented with an opportunity to step into the world of acting! My first featured role was alongside actors Kevin Hart, Will Ferrell, and T.I in the movie “Get Hard.” The experience was surreal and amazing and I knew I wanted to continue to act and gain more knowledge about the acting world. During my time with acting, I’ve participated in an episode of the hit TV show, “Salem,” the movie “Keanu” starring Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, and several other commercials and pilots.

I became a mom in 2016 to a beautiful baby boy, Caden, so my career had to be put on hold so I could focus on being a mother.

Now that my son is getting older, I am able to focus on my career and get back in the swing of things! I am currently a fashion stylist for Mac and Mia, a children’s brand that connects parents with personal stylists, like myself, who help you pick out amazing pieces for your children for any occasion. I am also a fashion influencer for Amazon where I have my own verified storefront that I update periodically to include the latest and hottest fashions of the season. I am also a brand ambassador for several brands such as Touch Dolls, Drunk Elephant, Slendertone and many many others. Just recently, I was accepted to join forces as an influencer for 2020 influencers, one of the best influencer agencies in the US.

I love my job and I love continuously connecting with amazing brands and people. I plan to continue my work as an influencer/brand ambassador and I also hope to get back into acting very soon!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been easy. I think I can speak for most people when I say that the road to success is not an easy one. If you want to be successful, you have to go through some struggles.

One of the biggest struggles, for me, was finding people who believed in me to actually help me on my path to success. I knew I was talented and I knew that I had what it took to work in this industry, but it took plenty of “no’s” and rejection before I starting seeing progression and a light at the end of the tunnel.

I had to realize that I needed tough skin. I also had to learn to accept myself for who I was and that I didn’t need to look like every other woman in order to be successful. I think that’s an important point to reiterate. In our world, today, there has become a certain standard of what beauty is or what’s considered to be “beautiful.” The moment we learn to accept and acknowledge that we are ok just being ourselves, it could really open up doors that you wouldn’t even imagine. Once I learned to accept myself, everyone else did as well.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
So today, I am most known for my fashion! I am a fashion influencer for Amazon and I am also apart of the influencer network “2020 influencers.” I am also a brand ambassador for several brands and products. I specialize in helping women look great without breaking the bank.

I’m most proud of the fact that I have put in the work and time to be where I am today. I wasn’t given any handouts and every connection that I have with a brand is a connection that I’ve worked for. As an influencer and brand ambassador, the possibilities are endless! Once you’ve mastered the art of communication and negotiation, there’s nothing that can stop you from connecting with huge brands and getting contracts with them to promote their product.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are to continue to grow and expand myself as s brand. I love the brands that I represent and I’m looking forward to connecting with more. I plan on getting back into acting very soon so look out for that.

My long term goal is to create my own fashion line of clothing. Being a working entrepreneur and a mom, I’m happy with my heavy workload right now but I’m looking forward to creating a unique clothing line in the future when I get more free time to do so.
