Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Jacobs.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Last year for my birthday, my friends decided to put their money together to surprise me with a brand new camera. Although the seed had been planted a long time ago, my creative journey bloomed the moment I received this gift. I hadn’t picked up a camera in years because as an environmental science major, my college experience consisted heavily of a study-eat-sleep rotation. The day after my birthday, I ventured into the city of Houston with my camera for the first time. I was reminded of how natural it felt to take photos and how happy it made me to capture moments of beauty. I thought to myself, why haven’t I been doing this whole time? Starting that day I had a new vision: I would dedicate time to grow and nurture my skills and share my creative journey with the world. Now I am producing new content every week, collaborating with other photographers and models, and working to expand my clientele! My story is still being written and there is many pages left to fill. I am very excited for what the future holds!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growth is catalyzed by challenges and failures! I like to practice a “welcome failure” mentality, especially when it comes to business ventures because failure is one of the best ways to LEARN. Natalie Jacobs Photography is in its infant stages and being someone who started photography less than a year ago, there have been plenty of growing pains. Establishing credibility, gaining followers on social media, acquiring new equipment, fine-tuning photography and editing skills, and reaching out to models all present unique challenges. However, this experience has taught me that courage and confidence play a key role in tackling problems. As long as you have the courage to try again after failure and the confidence in yourself that you can handle whatever comes along the way, there’s little to stop you from achieving your goals. When the road gets difficult, I remind myself of my favorite quote: “Be fearless in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
Please tell us about Natalie Jacobs Photography.
I am passionate about portrait and lifestyle photography. My goal as a photographer is to capture people in beautiful and unique moments in time using artistic and creative elements such as fashion, setting, and props. I also enjoy taking photos of people that are celebrating a milestone in their life whether it is a graduation, engagement, or other type of celebratory occasion. As Natalie Jacobs Photography I am most proud of my business’ perseverance and growth despite the overwhelming competition in the community. I feel that my work reflects my personality and my outlook on life because my photographs emphasize bright colors and portray good vibes.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change anything about my path! Everything happens for a reason and I am grateful for the learning opportunities of my past and those that are yet to come. Always forward, never backward!
