Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Silva.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
11 years ago, I was going to college to pursue my degree in art. I was studying to become an art teacher but that quickly changed when I took a digital media class and learned about graphic design. Graphic design was something I always did for fun, not realizing it was actually an in demand career. After graduating from college I got a full-time job designing, but that wasn’t enough. I had an obsession with graphic t-shirts and pins. My good friend told me I should turn on of my illustrations of my dogs into a pin and from there Unicorn Rockstar was born. I started adding more pin designs and then went on to do keychains, t-shirts, etc.. I thought it would be a great supplement to my full job and help me pay off some vet bills and then also use my company profits to help animal rescues. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life so I wanted to do my part in helping.
A portion of proceeds go to donation to local shelters and I often donate my dog charms to rescues for auctions or just to sell in their shops. Now that I am off on my own with Unicorn Rockstar and my freelance graphic design business, I decided to start another company called “Creative Bones”. Creative Bones is a creative agency that will be launched in February 2020. We will be taking on “Pro Bone-O” work that will also including helping local shelters with any design needs. I am super excited to start that business!
Has it been a smooth road?
Obstacles have been standing out in an industry that is completely saturated.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am most proud that my focus has not been profit, rather it has been finding what I love and doing it to the best of my ability, and if people like it great! My main goal is to make enough to make a decent living and give the rest back, mainly to animal rescues.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a great city to live and work in. The cost of living is the main reason I have not moved away. I get to enjoy a big city with lots of resources at a pretty fair price.
