So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have over 20 years’ experience in Human Resources. I have worked in global banking, Oil & Gas, Healthcare, and Education. The last challenging role before starting Smarter HR Solutions, LLC was a Director of HR for a home healthcare agency with over 600 employees. I was able to take a paper document file and create an electronic filing system (HRIS), put best practices in place, start an Employee Recognition program, and reduce redundancy in staffing saving the company approximately $300k. This company had been in business for 14 years and had grown from 3 people to 600+ people but the infrastructure was still that of a small company. I decided to launch Smarter HR Solutions to help other business owners who were struggling and overwhelmed with handling their HR responsibilities while trying to maintain or grow their business.
These businesses may not be ready financially for a full-time HR professional but could greatly benefit from HR expertise and want to stay compliant and avoid unnecessary fees and fines. Through Smarter HR Solutions, businesses can get the help they need while staying within their budget. We can offer monthly services or become their HR department. We found that most business owners are responsive to set fees so they can stay within their budget.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has not been smooth. In the beginning, people saw us as a recruiter and we tried to compete in that arena, which was difficult for our area whose economy is centered heavily on the oil and gas market. We soon realized we needed to leverage our HR expertise and we did and it was the best thing that happened to us. Our services are needed in either a robust or declining economy.

We are HR consultants with over 50 years combined experience in Banking, Education, Healthcare and Oil & Gas. We specialize in helping business owners who are struggling with HR and administrative tasks by offering cost-effective solutions to their HR (including payroll, benefits), training, and staffing needs. We are most proud of freeing up business owners’ time so they can focus on growing their business, increasing their profits, and enjoying a healthy work-life balance. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was being able to shave over $300k/annually from a past employer’s staffing budget. To understand what that does for a smaller business and the new “life” it gives to reign in the budget without losing integrity, that was phenomenal for me.
