Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Sorrels.
Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been designing and party planning ever since I was old enough. My grandmother was an art teacher, and this apple did not fall too far from her tree. When I went to college, I got my degree in Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics where a primary focus of study was on cooking, service and hospitality. I am ServeSafe Certified as well as a Certified Wilton Method Instructor. My business started as a hobby that would eventually grow into more. Today, I am blessed to have the support from my friends and family to turn my passion into a full time career.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is ever smooth! Thankfully, I have not encountered any business threatening challenges. In the beginning I struggled with getting a systematic way of shipping product across the United States. A lot of my products are fragile and can break easily. I have invested a lot of money into packaging materials. Nowadays, it is rare to hear that something did not make it safely.
Please tell us about Nicole Elisa Designs.
What really sets me apart is my ability to party plan, design party supplies, and bake treats and cakes. This allows me to create picture perfect details, and keep the overall cost down. If there is customized decor out there that you have seen, if I cannot find it, I can design it! From moist three tear cakes and chocolate covered Oreos, to photo booth props with backdrops, I have unique tools that allow me to create treats and decor others would typically pay a lot more for. In turn my customers truly get to see their unique visions come to life, while getting the most for their money.
I am also known for having tasty treats. I think it’s really important to have beautiful treats that taste amazing. What makes me the most proud, is when my customers are not only blown away with the quality of how everything looks, but they truly are enjoying the flavors of the desserts. It makes me happy to see how everyone is blown away.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have done it sooner! Every day I wake up, and I think that I have the best life ever! It’s not very many people that can say that they do their hobby as a profession. I am blessed.
