Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Murray.
Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began as a strategic marketing consultant in 2000 focusing on negotiating strategic relationships between mega brands and entertainment/sports personalities. In this role, I have brokered relationships for and between some of the most recognized brands in the world including things as simple as the breakfast cereal you eat, the football games you watch, the clothes you wear, some of the music artists you listen to and much more.
Eventually, I made a temporary move into oil and gas where I was able to expand my business travels outside of the US in my role as Global Engineering Collaboration Manager for a Fortune 500 Oil and Gas company. With that amazing project, I was responsible for helping to create a cohesive global intranet to facilitate collaboration between 10,000 of the world’s most gifted engineers and once created, I traveled the world rolling out the project to those engineers. The goal was to create a system would bridge cultural and social divides and create a global, interdependent community of some of the brightest minds the world has to offer–we accomplished that goal. Since then I have launched additional businesses including That Delish Life, LLC, a health and fitness company with a pop up restaurant component; The Mogul Factory (Modern Moguls), a company dedicated to taking a spiritual approach to the growth and development of others and Mogul Tax and Credit Repair, a tax preparation and credit repair company.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, the road has not been smooth by far. Based on my experience working with many clients and working on my own goals, I believe that for every dreamer and nearly every entrepreneur there are some universal challenges. The biggest is navigating through what it means to take a dream (which basically exists in the thin air of our imagination) and transforming it into a real, productive business enterprise. In that learning process is embedded everything from branding, funding, building a team and finding the people who need what you have. In my personal journey and even with my expertise, I have struggled with all of those things.
My hardest hill to climb from the beginning has always been finding the perfect work life balance. As a mother, I have chosen to be very present for my children. I am also very ambitious. Those two things do not always go together and if I’m ever faced with a choice in terms of how I devote my time and energy, I choose my children. Sometimes that can mean shifting things significantly or working in unconventional ways.
Please tell us about That Delish Life, LLC and Mogul Factory.
That Delish Life was created after I had my youngest daughter. The ideas was that it would enable me to have a business that would serve the needs of the health-minded consumer without requiring a great deal of travel while she is small. Over the four years that we have been in business we have sold our fitness apparel to customers as far away as Iceland, served customers in a few hundred pop-ups around the city of Houston, delivered thousands of our healthy meal plans to the front door steps of Houstonians in every corner of city and shipped hundreds of meals to customers in Florida, New York, Oklahoma and Ohio.
Modern Moguls is the evolution of my years as a strategic marketing consultant. Now I am building programs that will empower dreamers to become doers who make real impact. Having gotten Delish to where it is able to function well without me doing all of the daily operations and with my daughter now in preschool, I will be doing a greater number of consulting projects.
Mogul Tax Prep and Credit Repair is the rebrand of the tax business I launched in 2014 and now includes credit repair services.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would definitely look before I leap! But above all, I would also establish more of a community around me so that I had a support system in place to keep myself balanced. Today I have a group of success minded, spiritually motivated friends with whom I can celebrate, pray and sometimes even cry… I appreciate that in more ways than I can say.
