Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Swanson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my career in beauty in 2015 as a makeup artist while working full time in law enforcement communications. In August 2018, I quit my full-time career and began working in my company, Impeccable Beauty makeup artistry full-time. From there, I began teaching everyday women how to do office ready and event ready makeup. I was teaching classes every two months, and I noticed more new artist were attending my classes than the average every day woman . After talking with a few of those artist, I realized that most new artist are so focused on skill set training, which is very important by the way, but many lack the business mindset needed to actually grow a makeup business. From the start of my career, I’ve always invested in mindset and knowledge. I’ve hired professional experts to help mold me into a business savvy rising entrepreneur, and now I teach new artists exactly how I’ve been so successful in my makeup journey, how I went from making little to no money to doubling my income and now launching my second brand. In summer 2018, at the same time, I quit my full-time career, I created The Makeup Artist club (The MUA club) to help support Artist work, provide networking opportunities, and mentorship. So here we are today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road for me has been one that is being built as the journey continues. I cannot say it’s been hard, but if it was easy, everyone would be able to do it, right? I think that what I am trying to accomplish locally, not many locals, or any, have set out to be successful in this area of the industry just yet. So in a way, it’s a lot of pressure to not only succeed with this vision but to make sure everyone else who is apart of the club succeeds as well.
Please tell us about your business.
The MUA Club Mentorship program was designed to help support the new artist by offering resources, tools, and networking opportunities that will allow artist to grow their makeup hobby into a profitable small business. I work tirelessly to create networking opportunities for the artist while keeping our mentees on track with their goals, and supporting all members who are apart of the club. The MUA Club is known for community support amongst makeup artists. I am most proud of the fact that this brand is less about me and my artistry and more about giving the knowledge and support back to other artists and that is also what sets us apart from others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t do anything different. Every lesson learned on this journey is valuable and will eventually contribute to the success of the brand.
