Today we’d like to introduce you to Nora and Leandra.
Hi Nora and Leandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We, Nora and Leandra, are the owners at MG Interiors. Leandra is originally from Venezuela and Nora is a Houston native. We met at Houston Community College while we were working on our Interior Design degrees. We graduated right when Covid hit in 2020. It was a big obstacle to obtain internships during that time, but we were lucky enough to get the opportunity at a high-end residential firm. During our time there, we gained a range of experiences. From early construction stages all the way to staging residences. While working together on projects we discovered that we complimented each other very well. Our friendship grew and we began dreaming of our own firm one day. Due to life changes, we both had to pursue other opportunities, which led us to discuss the reality of opening MG Interiors.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Leandra gave birth in April and Nora has 3 kids of her own. With a newborn, it is challenging to think about professional life, but even then, we took a leap of faith and began our journey as independent Interior Designers. Having your own company gives you the flexibility to work at your own pace and time. We are both very family oriented and any time that we can save for our family matters. Being moms, we know what is needed to make a home functional for the entire family. We would like to point out that Latinas in the interior design business are a minority. With that being said, we would like to inspire others to pursue their career anywhere in the business. There is a range of opportunities in this field.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MG Interiors?
We are a residential interior design firm. MG interiors specialize in new builds and remodeling. We help select lighting fixtures, paint, plumbing, tile and space planning. Not only do we help with construction, but we can also help decorate any area in the home. From custom drapes to accessories, we can source it all. We work since the beginning with architects and all trades people. Something that we can say that sets us apart from others is that we are bilingual which helps us communicate effectively with anybody and opens up the door for us to have a greater diversity of clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We have been lucky to have clients trust us to bring their dream home to life. We also believe that everything about our work, skills, experience, and more importantly our company haven’t come from luck but from our dedication.
