Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Djibo.
Olivia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off by helping friends and family create concepts for their parties. I always enjoyed coming up with fun ideas that would be their guests feel special. Then I had the chance to design our own wedding by make trips from Houston to Cape Town South Africa. It was a labor of love, every choice I made had our guests in mind as they were traveling from all over the world to spend the week with us in Cape Town. From this experience, I caught the even design bug and I have not looked back ever since.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
hahaha, I would lie if I said it has been a smooth ride. Entrepreneurship is tough, it is hard work. Since I am in the custom creation world I struggled with pricing for a while and getting advice from too many conflicting sources. I am learning every day from my mistakes and my small successes how to be a better creative businesswoman.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Souris Rose story. Tell us more about the business.
Souris Rose is an event design boutique company. Our job is to create concepts for events, establish a color scheme, spatial plan and select every detail related to the aesthetic of the event including florals, lighting… Think of it as Interior design for a day or a temporary structure. We are known for our love for simplicity while bringing a modern take on classic looks. We specialize in using décor elements create and to produce an aesthetic that uniquely represents our client.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say luck has had a huge part in our growth. Luck in random encounters that led to meeting exceptional creatives over the last two years that we can call on to discuss anything, These individuals are on all continents, therefore, we can benefit from an international perspective.
