Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Garcia.
Oscar, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Churrasco To Go is family-owned and operated, homegrown in Houston, Texas. We believe family comes first and deserves the best in quality – from food to service, and to us, you are family. Nearing our five year anniversary, it has been tough at times but we’ve been able to always come back on top. From late nights prepping food to having events rained out or canceled last minute, it is never easy. But we do this with a passion and because we love seeing the faces of our customers when they come back for more.
This year alone has been filled with a lot of great challenges for the business and our city but at the same time, there is a lot to be thankful for. Including our loyal customers and friends. We’re thankful for the memories we’ve made, and above all – for the immense support of our loyal fans. The fact we keep growing each year means a lot, 2018 – expect to see a lot more of the Churrasco To Go team.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any business, trying to support your dreams the first couple of months is tough. You have no name so it’s always tough to find places to serve at or have people come and buy your food. But little by little the word starts to spread, and you start seeing familiar faces – for us, it took a while to see a profit. And when we did it just kept moving up. The food truck world is tough because you always have to be looking for new locations and there’s a lot of competition between food trucks to get those buys spots first. But also, there’s a lot of comradery, the best way to go at it is to help each other out. 2017 was tough, with all the floods, Hurricane Harvey, the colder weather, cases where someone else will try to steal ideas from us, copy our brand… but we survived. 2018 has been slow, but we’re already seeing busier weekends. And hopefully, after the Super Bowl the weather will give in and we will start our busy season.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Churrasco Food Truck story. Tell us more about the business.
Churrasco Food Truck is known as the original Churrasqueria on wheels. We grill our meats the Brazilian gaucho style, using the best quality of meat and grilling it to perfection. We love the fact that this is a family-owned, family-run business. On busy weekends we have the kids helping out at the window, taking pictures and they never complain because they love being paid after! We’re hard workers and always try to better our service and quality of food.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We’ve definitely been very lucky these past years. Without luck we wouldn’t have been so successful but at the same time hard-work and perseverance pays off.
