Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiff.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Shiff was started as more of a study, a way of exploring Houston and interacting with the people through photography. The goal is to take this same mentality and apply it to garments, accessories, pop-ups, activations, etc.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s a delicate balance between designing to trends and hype, versus building something that’ll last for generations. Shiff is in it for the long run.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Different parts of the world are well known for their various trades. Houston has a large energy sector and medical hub, but few people regard it as a place of arts or fashion culture even though this is prevalent in Houston too. Shiff is working to bring a spotlight to the city and building on the idea of “Southern Street Smart™.” We have demonstrated this message through our first line of clothing.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The Houston Hip Hop influencers, the UGKs, DJ Screws, Bun Bs, all the OGs that created a strong culture and identity for Houston and took it across the globe deserve eternal respect from the city. In addition, all the immigrants and the diversity they bring. From a cultural perspective, these are the people that allow for a brand like Shiff to claim a Houston identity in today’s world.
