Meet Patrick Laine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Laine.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Patrick. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It’s become entirely too normal for people to be overweight and unhealthy. What’s worse is kids subconsciously expect adults to be overweight. As a dad of two young kids, I have a full understanding that my kids (and yours) will be the ones to pay for this mess. When I was in grad school at Notre Dame, my Aunt Terry died of colon cancer. When that happened, I felt this urge to make a difference. At the time, I had no clue how to attack the problem – I was in grad school studying organic chemistry – so naturally addressing the problem with medicine seemed like the best solution. It’s funny because I hated organic chemistry – I had 1 dream – to go to Notre Dame. They didn’t have a chemistry program I liked (undergrad degree was Chemistry), but for damn sure, that wasn’t going to stop me. I had a chance to go to Notre Dame, I was going. I digress. It’s really interesting because fast forward 20 years and here I am helping people get healthy – BUT in an entirely different way than I ever imagined. Never did I imagine, I’d be here running a fitness business changing lives, listening to testimonial after testimonial of how peoples lives have changed not only physically but medically speaking as well. Had my aunt had access to a convenient, friendly, judge free exercise environment – a program like Fast Laine Fit to help her on the path to better health – she may still be alive today.

Has it been a smooth road?
While it’s all relative, no road worth traveling is ever completely smooth. As an outdoor fitness platform, we are at the mercy of mother nature daily. On the very first day, we launched six new groups in our first summer (2017), it POURED cats and dogs. I mean, raining sideways. It’s funny because that day, I remember thinking 1 day we will look back on this day and laugh. Of course, I wasn’t laughing that day. Then, of course, later in 2017, Hurricane Harvey had a great impact on our city. That was a challenging time for everyone. We tried to help by donating 1 month of revenue to JJ Watts Hurricane Harvey relief fund. It was something like $2500. That was a lot of money for us, but we just needed to help somehow. I always think about that money and hope it landed in the right hands to make a real impact.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fast Laine Fit story. Tell us more about it.
We send trainers into neighborhoods to cultivate group fitness sessions for the community. Our specialty is taking a 1-hour workout and condensing it into 30 minutes. 30 minutes is enough time to get you worked and will lead to real results. What we are most proud of is the difference we make in peoples lives – the testimonials we hear are incredible. People credit us with their changed lives, but I assure you it’s not us. It’s them. This platform is available to everyone. The thing is, the beast lies INSIDE of each 1 of us. It’s just a matter of finding how to unleash it. We simply provide the platform; they supply the sweat! In society, we are trained to go through this roller coaster of unsustainable weight loss solutions with these shakes or this quick weight loss strategy when these things are UNSUSTAINABLE. It drives me nuts to see these people on social media bragging about their quick weight loss with some hot garbage milkshake. To make real sustainable changes, it takes a lifestyle of being active and eating real foods – a novel concept I know.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology continues to play more and more of a role in the fitness industry. Who knows what the limits are, but the one with that perfect blend between artificial intelligence and personal interaction will come out on top.
