Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Sheffield.
Paul, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, to be honest, my story was birthed out of tragedy. The death of my cousin, who was just a few years older than me, had a major impact on the trajectory of my life. Prior to his death, I had a career in the financial sector. I was aware early in my financial career that I would eventually want to establish a company of my own, but I did not have the means to pursue my passion of entrepreneurship with a wife and child at home. After the loss of my cousin, I was amazed by the resilience of my family and the strength of my Uncle (my cousin’s father). I realized life is too short to have regrets. My uncle inspired me to pursue my vision, as he had, and with his support and guidance during such a tough time, I started my company. With earnest prayers from my wife and I, Eagle Home Health Care came to fruition. Now we have the vehicle to help the people who need it the most.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I have tried my hand at other ventures in the past, this endeavor was different and required much more of me. I was working a full- time job, my wife was in school full-time and we were raising our son. As you can imagine, finding time to build a company in the medical field was extremely difficult. It required many sleepless nights, out of pocket expenses, and a great deal of networking events. We were considered the new kids on the block and that made it difficult to establish ourselves within the community. There were often times where it was difficult to find the will to keep pushing forward. Sometimes it seems impossible to bring our visions to reality but, it’s even harder trying to get other people to trust in your vision. Fortunately for me, God gave me the perfect wife. She believed in me, she was and is my biggest motivation. She encouraged me to keep pushing through those sleepless nights and understood that there were things we needed to sacrifice financially to build this company. The vision of helping people was far too important to quit or give up when it was tough. We knew we had the right tools and expertise to do the job, but the struggle was getting other people to see it.
Please tell us about Eagle Home Health Care.
Eagle home health care specializes in providing nursing services to medically disabled and special needs children. With Medicaid, we are able to bring medical treatment to our patients’ homes without any out of pocket expense to them. This allows the parents or guardians of our precious patients to focus on getting their little ones better without the worry of a huge financial burden. Our nurses are highly trained in various treatment methods, and with the help of our patients Primary Care Physicians and hospital medical teams we are able to develop the best individualized treatment plan for their specific diagnosis. We also provide physical, occupational and mental health therapy services.
In my opinion, medical clinicians are one of the most undervalued workforces. They are the individuals that go to work every day not looking for accolades or recognition. They just want to help people. I could not be prouder of the tireless work they do on a daily basis and their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure their patients are getting the best care possible. I make sure my entire team holds the same high regard for medical clinicians that I do, which shows through our track record of success. We consider ourselves successful when we are able to discharge patients from our agency because they are either able to independently care for themselves or they are in remission of their initial illness.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I always enjoyed the holiday season as a child. In Michigan, having snow on the ground during Christmas was normal. As a child waking up on Christmas, looking outside at the snow and then running downstairs to see our gifts always put a smile on my face. These are memories I will always cherish.
