Meet Raveen Johnson of The Raveen Alexis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raveen Johnson.

Raveen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
#PositiveSelfTalk began in 2016 from a conversation with a friend. We were speaking of our goals and dreams, and she focused more on what she hadn’t done rather than what she had accomplished. I reminded her of how far she has actually come, and it made me realize how much we all must engage in negative self-talk. I’m also an avid journaler, and it’s one of the ways that I cope with negativity, anxiety, and the like. I figured that if I needed this, certainly someone else in the world did too. I held my first Journaling workshop in July 2016 and, since then, I’ve had 5 more, with an additional 2 outside of Houston (SXSW – Austin, TX and Women In Solidarity Conference – NYC).

I have a Bachelors in Print Journalism, and I also manage a blog. My writing skills combined with my passion to inspire through writing and transparency is what has made these workshops a success. They heal me too, which I think is necessary in any craft. The art must’ve changed you if you feel inspired to change/influence someone else. #PositiveSelfTalk is my baby.

Has it been a smooth road?
It actually has been a smooth road for the most part. I’ve had moments where I didn’t think anyone would attend. I thought I wasn’t prepared enough or “official” enough to host a workshop. Any struggle that I’ve ever faced during this journey has been self-inflicted LOL. As I continue to journey, I re-learn the importance of self-love and self-belief. And self-trust. Those would be the only hurdles. Other than that, I’ve never doubted the intensity of #PositiveSelfTalk, and every workshop has been successful in its own way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Raveen Alexis – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Raveen Alexis started off as just a blog/portfolio for my published work. Now, (still a work in progress), it is blossoming into a media platform that takes an unconventional approach to arts and culture. I’ve covered prominent businesses, events, and entrepreneurs in the city of Houston while also helping the community stay in-the-know about local and national talent.

I am also a freelance writer, available to write blog posts, press releases, bios, website copy, and news articles (feature). I copyedit, maintain websites, manage social media accounts, and create graphics.

I also host #PositiveSelfTalk, a series of journaling workshops with intentions on healing and reflecting through journaling, and #LoveYoSelf, an event for the culture, including artists, DJs, and vendors. We also give a portion of the proceeds to local Houston non-profits.

The only thing that sets me apart from others is the passion and sincerity behind the work and the life experiences that have inspired me to follow these dreams. While there are many wonderful media platforms in Houston, there is only one The Raveen Alexis.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston has So. Much. Talent. And so much diversity. Our city is filled with gems, from events to restaurants, to parks to artists. I love that no matter where you turn, there is something or someone new to experience. There’s nothing that I dislike! Except for the bumpy roads LOL. Other than that, I LOVE Houston.
