Meet Rebecca Warriner of AR Workshop Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Warriner.

Rebecca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was invited to attend AR Workshop in Raleigh to make a project with some friends before I moved out-of-state and back home to the Houston area. When I walked into the workshop, I remember thinking it was not what I expected! It was cute, clean, and the projects were amazing. I wondered how I was going to make something that looked good… I had done my fair share of painting projects and they usually didn’t make it past my trash can. The process to complete the project was painless and easy to follow with instructions – I really didn’t have to have any painting skills at all! Fast forward to showing my kids the next morning what I made and they both, independent of each other said, “You? Made that?” – They were surprised because it looked so good. I’m still so proud of my first project. That day, I filled out the request to open my own store – I just knew that Cypress, TX needed an AR Workshop! Well, we had to move, get settled in our new home, get kids established in their school, and then about six months after we arrived in Cypress, we decided it was the right time to open our very own AR Workshop. We opened on June 15, 2019 and held our first workshop on June 18th and have been so thrilled to share this Carolina-find with our hometown!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know that any road to starting a new business is smooth but it has definitely been very do-able, which is great because as owners of a Do-It-Yourself Workshop, I like to “do” things. Our location is exactly where we wanted – close to Bridgeland, Cypress Creek Lakes, and Blackhorse and conveniently located off 290 so it’s easy for the Fairfield and Cole’s Crossing communities to get to us. We are only about 1 mile from the 290/Fry Rd intersection! The biggest struggle is not having enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do – which ultimately is just a prioritization activity. While I am overflowing with ideas and things I want to do at my workshop, I am forcing myself to take my time and do each event well and provide an amazing experience to each of our customers.

Please tell us about AR Workshop Cypress.
AR Workshop Cypress is a boutique DIY studio that offers hands-on classes for creating custom and charming home decor from raw materials. At our workshop, guests join an instructor-led workshop to make custom wood signs, framed signs, canvas pillows, round signs, lazy susans, centerpiece boxes, tote bags, chunky knit blankets, and more! We have a retail area where guests can pick up cute jewelry and gift items as well as pre-made signs for those last-minute gifts you don’t have time to make. We also provide closing gifts for a number of local realtors and home-service companies – While some realtors like to make their own projects, we also offer to make the closing gifts and deliver them wrapped and ready to present (including a gift card!) Our workshop is clean, organized, and a great place to relax with your friends while you work on your project. Let us serve you and guide you through the process to make an amazing piece for your home, office, or as a gift for someone else!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up with a very handy father and some of my favorite memories are playing in the sawdust in the garage while he worked on projects around the house. I LOVED to go to Handy Dan (the local hardware store) with my dad and play with the nails, bolts, nuts, and washers they had in the bulk bins too. My grandmother and mom could both sew which meant I also spent my fair share of time around a sewing machine creating dresses for my toys and then in high school dresses for all the parties! We spent a lot of time together as a family (my parents, sister, brother, and I) – all of my favorite memories have them in it and usually involve building or creating something!
