Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Gizzle.
Mike, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Brownfield and Lubbock, we all dream of making it big or just making it out of the hood. Whether it’s through a good job, the military, marriage or simply just saving up enough money to get out. People like me aren’t meant to have it all in life. But if you want things to be better or to change, you have to go out and get it. You HAVE to be stubborn when they close doors on you, you HAVE to be hardheaded when they say you can’t “do that”. You HAVE to be a little selfish to be able to help yourself. Because at the end of the day, if you can’t even help yourself, HOW are you going to be able to help ANYONE else. Not everyone is going to agree with you doing music, driving hours to go perform at shows in different towns or cities. Because it’s not for everyone. Not everyone likes going to auditions to read scripts for a new project. But it’s not for everyone. I never thought I’d be doing radio and rubbing shoulders or having face to face conversations with the likes of multimillionaires like Houstons own J-Prince, owner & founder of Rap-a-Lot records at one of his many compounds. I never thought I’d release an album or music videos. I never thought I’d see myself on TV much less in Superbowl commercials. I never knew ANYONE who had a brand new home built from the ground up not just remodeled. But that didn’t stop me & my wife from achieving that dream either. What I’m saying is no matter how hard or dark your past was… you don’t have to give up on yourself. There was a time I hated myself, but that gets you nowhere. Man up to your mistakes and take charge of the gifts you DO have. I work, I make music and perform now, I talk to people on radio and air peoples music who love doing what they do, and I do some acting too. In other words, you can’t put me in one box like an everyday average nobody…because them days of me being a nobody are gone. And I want EVERYONE to feel like they can go out and achieve what they want in life! –>MikeG ->ReelTalks
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can definitely say that it wasn’t easy getting to where I’m at today. You are going to feel push back from EVERY angle when you try to do things that everyone else isn’t doing in your circle. For me, booking shows out of town in the beginning was kinda hard because YOU have to pay your own way for gas, food, hotels, all of that. Unless you are sponsored or repped by a major label with black cards to swipe, you are coming out of your own pocket for this. But…its what’s necessary if YOU want to reach new ears and a different audience other than the ones in your home town. Getting your music properly registered and all that was something I knew NOTHING about either. Thanks to me being interviewed on radio by #Biship on #MobOutMondayz, I was able to ask those kind of questions and got direct responses and answers WHICH paved the way to get my works registered by BMI. So, artists reading this, get your stuff registered if you want to get the royalty checks in the mail. And trust me, it feels good to see them. Even if ain’t a million dollar check, it’s a check for YOUR music that people hear worldwide.
#ReelTalksWithMikeGizzle and #MikesGlobalMix – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I promote peoples music, pages, or business. I do interviews so you can share your story with our listeners. I hear peoples music, I accept submissions if you send them to my email which is mikeg17197@gmail.com. , they must be properly mixed & mastered, and not to overly explicit either because I may just skip that one if it’s all cusswords about your penis & your girls’ crotch. I’m not saying I don’t play curse words because we all cuss, just do it in good taste and be smart about it. Because no one is going to want to hear a bunch of nonsense with a bunch of cusswords in it.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Damn, that’s ones a hard one! I can honestly say I’ve done a lot that I never imagined I would…but I have to go with landing that J-Prince interview. It was major for #ReelTalksWithMikeGizzle and #slaughtahouzeradio. When I made that announcement and posted it, EVERYONE and they mamma was showing this mescan some love. It’s how it goes too, but us over here at #ReelTalksWithMikeGizzle were humbled and even more motivated than before. Because THIS was an eye opener, it showed me, it showed us that we can do this. We can keep pushing if we want to get to that #BreakfastClub, #JoeRogan, #Desus&Mero #UnWineWithTashaK level. Yes, I want to go platinum with my music as well, but I KNOW I can push #ReelTalksWithMikeGizzle to that level if I work harder and don’t give in…
