Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Hill.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ricky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started DJ in 2018 at Sam Houston State. My friends actually came up with the idea of me being a DJ. All the DJ’s at that time where graduating, so they thought it was the perfect opportunity for me. After a 3 hour conversation with my friends, we came up with my DJ Name, I ordered all the equipment, and I bought a make book. I self-taught myself how to DJ on YouTube.
1 1/2 year later, I’m the official DJ of Choselife, DJ for over 5,000, I have my own clothing, host my own events, and much more
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has definitely bumpy and will continue. When I was younger, I learned nothing is in life is going to be easy.
I have encountered multiple struggles, but the one that sticks out. As my talents grew, so did my social life. I had to learn how to balance my new lifestyle of DJ’ing, pledging, traveling, working, and school. Time past and it took me a couple of months to adjust.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a contracted DJ out of Houston, TX. I specialize in Club DJ, Private Events, & Party DJ. I’m most known for being the official DJ of Choselife. Choselife hosts major events from parties to painting & sip. I have my DJ clothing brand and accessories. What I’m most proud of in my company is that I continue to open doors with different people around Texas. I love to network with people, I feel that’s the most important thing to grow your company/brand. What sets me apart from others is my determination & communication skills. Again I love to network and meet new people.

I give everyone at Sam Houston State credit for helping me succeed. The motivation and love they give me is crazy. My friends has pushed me since day one to be great. They pick me up when I’m down, and always give me constructive criticism. SamFam is something that I will always be grateful for.
Also, Choselife Entertainment deserves all of the credit. Choselife started in 2011 at SHSU. Since 2011 choselife has grown around the state of Texas. We host multiple events around the Houston area. Drunk Olympics 5 was our latest event. Over 5,000 people attended the event. Becoming the official DJ in early 2019, their platform help me grown my DJ fan base by thousands.
