Meet Rodell Duff in Kemah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodell Duff.

Rodell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Started off singing in the church, my grandma use to force me to sing every Sunday. From there, I began to love music, joined the school choir in 6th grade, where I was introduced to show choir, acting, etc. In HS, I fell in love with the choir even more and became extremely involved, which lead me to join a group of a few buddies, all we would do is sing Boyz to Men songs, Billy Joel and Barbershop Quartet music, etc. I had a pretty good buzz, but we all lost touch after graduation. While in college, I joined a “rap” group as their RnB singer, those guys were extremely talented but didn’t make the right connections. As much as I loved the group I had to bow out because it just wasn’t for me, I like the genre, but I wasn’t living that “life” plus I needed to figure out my life. From there, I stopped singing for a while. Quite a few years, then in July of 2017, I was leaving the church. Going through a pretty nasty breakup, I stopped by a guitar center and picked up an extremely cheap guitar and told myself I would learn how to play. Now here we are almost three years later and I am doing shows and playing at cook-offs, etc. Haven’t had any BIG shows yet. However, my shows do get packed from time to time, but my biggest one is coming up at the League City Music Festival on September 25th. I’ve also been releasing singles on all platforms. Check it out when you get a chance.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all, but I’m at the age where I would prefer to make music that is meaningful and hopefully timeless. There’s no struggle when I prep for shows by myself, but getting a band together could be hard and stressful. I love playing so I’m just embracing it all.

Rodell Duff -Music – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a musician, I specializing in playing live music and making people feel good. I’m known for my positive attitude and love of music. 100% I believe in myself, I’m extremely hard on myself and passionate about my music and craft.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me would be getting to the point that my music will pay for EVERYTHING someday. I religiously look for different ways to improve myself, whether it is songwriting, guitar lessons, vocal practice, or even studio lessons. The goal is to be 100% self-sufficient, I know it’s a long road ahead, but I am embracing the journey. When it all pays off, it will be a good testament to my son that anything is possible if he puts his mind to it! I am now diving deeper into building my home studio and making my music a little bit more full of different instruments.
