Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie Michael.
Pyuhng Kwahn Jahng Nim (PKJN) (5th degree master) Ron Michael has been in Kuk Sool Won since 1978 starting lessons with 7th degree master Young-Il Park who opened the first Kuk Sool Won school in Houston. Ron met GrandMaster, Kuk Sa Nim, In-Hyuk Suh in San Francisco at his headquarter school in 1980-1983 and became a private student of the Grandmaster in 1991 when he moved his school to Houston Texas. Kuk Sa Nim personally trained Ron Michael to 3rd degree black belt.
During the 1990’s as a first, second, and third degree black belt, Ron started teaching at Kuk Sa Nim’s Headquarters school in North Houston.
Kuk Sa Nim setup a part time school at the nearby YMCA in North Houston in 1995 and placed 2nd degree Ron Michael as instructor who later would teach at several more YMCA schools in Central Houston and Southwest Houston.
Ron continues to train and teach as an instructor at the Headquarters’ school in Tomball, Texas of Suhn Im Kwahn Jahng Nim (8th degree Senior Master) Alex Suh who is the son of Kuk Sa Nim.
Many of Ron’s students have gone on to become black belt instructors themselves. Today Master Ron Michael teaches only private lessons to individuals and families in Katy along with the help of his daughter, Ariel Michael, a second-degree black belt and Andrew Anderson, a first-degree black belt taught by Master Ron Michael.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Grandmaster always wanted me to run a school, but I was okay with just teaching as a headquarter instructor. However, I eventually decided to teach and open a private school for those families that wanted learn in Katy, Texas.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kuk Sool Won of Katy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I offer a great deal of experience in 39 years of martial arts and my students learn well. My motto is it is better to know one technique well that a thousand poorly. My students benefit from personal attention and instruction from me and have achieved awards and feel a since a pride at their own accomplishments. In Kuk Sool won we study and teach, forms for balance, techniques for self-defense using joint locks, pressure points, and throws. We study weapons and self-defense against them. Kuk Sool Won is very comprehensive martial art and the exercise is good for health. After having spent a lifetime in it, I’m proud that I’m still in good shape as I turn 60 years old this year.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
