Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Herman.
Like many stay-at-home mothers, Rosie’s full time commitment to her newborn twins and her husband was a blessing and no doubt the most challenging job she had ever faced. Her hands were constantly in water from bathing and caring for the babies. Soon the skin on her hands were dry, cracked and bleeding (“lizard skin” as she calls it). After the babies were asleep, Rosie began experimenting in her kitchen with natural ingredients and various oils to try and create something therapeutic to use on her hands. After repeated attempts, she came up with a recipe she liked and gift-packaged the special formula in glass jars which she gave to friends and family as Christmas gifts. The original name of the product was called “Mommy’s Magic”. More and more people tried the skin softening concoction and requested jars to use and give to their friends. Rosie began making her salt and oil scrub hand treatment in larger quantities and started selling her product at local craft shows. Demand increased and the business moved from the kitchen into her garage as the product found more distribution channels in the professional beauty industry, Production once again moved from the garage into a small production facility where the demand could be met. Gift stores and specialty boutiques were the next markets to target and approach. Once they had been established nationally they were approached by distributors and buyers in Europe where today they have a very strong presence.
Has it been a smooth road?
When demand began to outstrip supply, Rosie approached lending institutions for loans and they all turned her down. Banks would not recognize an entrepreneurial stay-at-home mom as a credible profession. Not willing to take no for an answer and in need of raising money, Rosie would barter her golden skin care treatment with her neighbors and friends for diapers; she would clip coupons, and fill out credit card applications to come up with enough cash to fund her newfound operation. As production demand increased, the Herman’s moved their operation out of the kitchen and into their garage. Eventually production necessitated finding a commercial facility which could hold machinery and warehousing space to meet the proliferation of new orders.
Then out of nowhere, Rosie was contacted by the Oprah Show and made her debut appearance with her One Minute Manicure, After 17 years, millions of dollars of One Minute Manicure product has been sold. Today, One Minute Manicure is sold nationwide and is also selling successfully in Europe and in Canada. The corporate headquarters today is a fully-integrated facility located in Houston, Texas. Rosie expresses her gratitude to both family and friends who have contributed to and have been a part of her story.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Being born and raised in Houston (YES, a true native Texan), Rosie and her family have seen and enjoyed all the best that Texas has to offer over the years. Dynamic and diverse, Houston offers the greatest opportunities imaginable for the aggressive and motivated entrepreneur. Home to all the business opportunities available to anyone with a desire and willingness to seize the challenges and create their own future. The biggest negative about Houston is that it is sooo BIG! Driving across Houston is like driving across some states.
