Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan David.
Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started cutting hair almost by accident in 2004 after my barber at the time no longer provided a service that I was satisfied with. Oddly enough, the previous Christmas, my parents gave me a pair of clippers thinking I would only shave with them, little did they know that it was the seed to my career as a barber. I locked the door to the bathroom one night around 1 am, and by 2:30 am, I came out with something that resembled a haircut of sorts. It was by no means a “good” haircut. However, I was proud of myself. That was a little over 15 years ago. Now I’m blessed to say that a pair clippers have allowed me to travel all across the country to provide professional grooming for celebrities, fashion shows, photoshoots, and award shows alike. In the process of becoming a professional barber and Certified Male Grooming Specialist, I was able to find great mentors as I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Huston-Tillotson University as well as work for and with a few major corporations. I’ve studied with some of the best barbers and stylists that our industry has to offer, as well as taught and mentored some of great up and coming haircare professionals. All of these experiences led me to what we now know as “I AM RYAN DAVID.” From day one there has been a desire to provide a better barbering experience for the gentlemen who have sat and continue to sit in my chair. The goal has remained constant, “Make Good Men Look Great!” This is the calling card for what you can anticipate during your appointment with me. Quality service, quality experiences and quality grooming; are the staples of the brand that we’ve built over the past few years. And now, I’m excited to announce that in July of 2020, I will be bringing this love and passion for men’s grooming to Houston, Texas. As always, see you in the chair!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would hardly say the road has been smooth. However, I can say that there has been a type of grace that I believe God has extended to me during the journey. I truly love this craft and that has always kept me motivated to grow. Graduating from college and seeking to pursue a career in barbering provided a conflict of interest for my family and I at the beginning of my career. Relocating from Austin, Tx back to my hometown of Beaumont, Tx was a challenge of sorts within itself as well. Then as I began to grow as a professional in a smaller market city, the challenge of out pricing myself and finding outlets for exposure to the global industry is always a obstacle.
Please tell us about your business.
“I AM RYAN DAVID” is a full service men’s grooming brand that provides both hair and skin care options to all men of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. Barbering is merely the foundation that we build on which leads, men to quality grooming such as facials, skin and scalp treatments and even hydrotherapy beard grooming services. I specialize in total men’s grooming, which includes hair, scalp and skin maintenance. I’ve built my reputation on professionalism and quality consistent grooming. Proudly I can say that over the past 15+ years, I’ve been able to continually educate myself and my clients on the best products and services available. Simply taking the time to care about the details of the work that I do has enabled me to separate myself from many of my peers in this industry.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was blessed to have a great childhood! That makes for so many great memories, which renders it difficult to chose just one memory. What I can say is that my fondest memories always involve my family. We a large family on both my mother and father’s side of the family, which makes for a beautiful array of relationships. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews all adding the memories that I have a kid growing up in SouthEast, Texas.
