Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan and Kevin Muccular.
Ryan and Kevin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
That’s My Dog got its start in 2012. We spent the entire year traveling the world globally and locally to research the very best hot dogs there were. We additionally took our time saving to purchase all of our equipment without having to worry about how we would pay staff or purchase items needed to stay afloat. March 2013 we made our splash in Richmond CA where the city manager came out to do a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This 3rd day of the month we served more than 400 customers and are currently a big hit in Northern CA.
In 2015 my husband Kevin and I decided the time had come where we grow the business in a new location we could grow our family, purchase a home and expand the business all the same. We spoke with our realtor and asked where in Texas there had the best school district and we were told Katy Texas. We began to save for a home and properly transition from California training staff to operate in our absence. In December 2015 Katy became our new home as well the original home of the bbq beef brisket dog, a classic TMD signature and customer favorite.
I’m the two years we have been in Texas we have secured contracts with the likes of Cricket Wireless, No Label Brewing Company and the National Football League serving more than 3000 of our Cajun Coleslaw Dogs to team owners, their family members, and friends. At the top of the year prayerfully no later than March 2018 our very first brick and mortar will be open in a modern shopping center with the likes of Chick Fila, Mc Donald’s, Taco Bell and Whataburger to name a few of our heavy hitter fellow fast food restaurants.
That’s My Dog also known as TMD is a company that cares and we have proven that time and time again over the years. After Hurricane Harvey hit we immediately gathered together all we had coupled with the many donations that came our way and we served more than 4000 people absolutely free of charge from the depths of our hearts as a way to help in our states time of need.
TMD is an affordable mobile and soon to be stand still business with palate-pleasing menu items designed with our customers taste buds in mind. Whether you are a meat lover or a vegan you will be well pleased with our families handmade recipes passed down from generations well before us.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
2017 to say the least was the most challenging both in business and in our personal lives.
In April 2017 my husband nearly lost his life and since learned he has a disease called diverticulitis. He has since had it under control but it literally wiped us out financially.
In all of 2015, we trained great candidates who possessed a great deal of what we were looking for in TMD business operators. In 2016 we began to see a severe decrease in sales as well we received a few 1-star reviews from customers after having years of 5-star reviews. This began to take place greatly during the time of my husband’s illness and sadly we learned our staff was showing late to events or not at all. We found that staff was stealing from us both in cash and in product.
Recognizing the name we built from sweat, tears and our own hard-earned finances was beginning to suffer this year we made a very hard decision to temporarily shut our California operation down until we build the means and staff to relaunch the way in which it was while we were present.
The road hasn’t been easy but we are grateful and it’s truly been rewarding.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with That’s My Dog – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
That’s My Dog is a Gourmet Hot Dog Company that most would think is a business that sells gourmet hot dogs. What we sell however is a customer experience. We are a company that sadly a great deal of business don’t operate like. We answer the phone 24 hours a day and if we miss a call we return the call within minutes. We service every customer with a smile and serve our hearts without seeming false because we surely aren’t. We make all of our gourmet toppings by hand, from scratch from passed down family recipes.
Though it’s not advertised we give away food to all in need whether it be the less fortunate homeless individual or a single parent that may not have enough to cover their bill.
We are often told to raise our prices as the quality and quantity doesn’t match what we charge. We would agree but are proud to be able to serve everyone from a child that may only have a few dollars to the working class individual that can afford our entire menu at once.
We love the Lord and recognize all of our blessings come from Him. That said we are a Christian organization that believes the more we have the more we give away. We began something called TMD Cares and whenever there is any need we can service or fulfill we will always initiate or be a major part of.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our restaurant that is to open in 2018 is the biggest project to date. We are very optimistic about its opening and hope to get our products into the hands of every person that crosses our path whether it be intentional or by referral.
We are working with a marketing firm right now that we certainly can not afford but we are praying to be able to little by little gain their services to take our business to the next level. Although we do not know where this may come from we absolutely believe it will happen and we will have the opportunity to be our best business as we truly feel we have the right hearts to serve, live as we’d like and provide for all in need through our sales.
