Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Overton.
Samantha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always did photojournalism in high school and was the photographer at every family event. I was able to travel to New York with my high school’s choir to capture them singing at Central Park with Mariah Carey and Miguel. Once I went to college, my parents became very sick, so I decided every moment she had left on earth should be captured, so I saved for a decent camera. I uploaded my camera I bought for myself on social media and a hair company inboxed me about taking pictures for their company. That opportunity opened doors for me to take photography more seriously. When my parents passed away last year, I took a break, but I’m back to the drawing board.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has a lot of bumps as far as finding my own editing style and what I consider art. I want to step out of the traditional style of editing and photography and create my own style and stay consistent. I want people to know my work just by my editing style. Staying consistent, promoting myself, and networking is a major key but sometimes overwhelming and difficult. However, I set goals to reach and I’m doing great so far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sovera Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a lifestyle photographer. So far, I’ve been taking local entrepreneurs’ business pictures. I love taking pictures outside because the sun is the perfect light, but I also love working in the studio because I can be more creative with the backdrops. At the moment, I’m known for working with businesses and family portraits outside. My most proud moment was a birthday shoot I did for a lady who owns a clothing line. It was one of my first sessions and because of the popularity of the lady, I was able to receive more clients since I was just starting off with my business at the time. What sets me apart from others is my versatility with my decorating and editing style. A client gives me a verbal visual and I bring it to life!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For 2020, I want to take time out to perfect my editing and travel more to capture different things such as actual blue water, animals, different races, unique looking people. The sky is the limit and even beyond the sky. I want to expand my clientele.
