So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Northern California north of Napa Valley in a place called Fairfield / Vacaville. It all started when I was young, I knew I wanted to make money and have financial freedom. By the age of nine, I was selling cookie dough orders door to door from a catalog to all the local downtown small businesses of Vacaville (my local hometown). I became known in the area for the kid that places cookie dough orders.
At the age of 12, my family moved to Texas and by the age of 15, I was buying and selling cell phones and electronics locally. I would place ads in the classifieds on craigslist and other sources stating that I purchased broken or unwanted electronics, cell phones, tablets and anything else of resell value. When I turned 16 and got my license to drive, I had built up enough business to stay on the road almost the entire day meeting local individuals and buying their devices. One morning I was going to meet up with an individual to sell a few devices I had picked up the previous week. He let me know that overseas where is was sending these devices, they paid a significantly higher price due to the supply being low. I made friends with that individual and over the course of 2 years, I sold over 5,000 devices.
After some time, the carriers started offering trade-in programs for these devices so individuals were no longer selling a lot of their old devices locally.
As an entrepreneur, you always have to keep looking for the next thing. When you’re working a job this is different. Someone is always there to tell you their agenda, and that agenda always has to do with helping someone else’s goals. The next chapter for me was cars. We started placing the same kind of ads as before but for automobiles. “I’ll buy your unwanted or broken vehicle.” Within one year, me and my brothers had flipped over 100 vehicles. We built a warehouse shop with offices, auto lifts for repair and service technicians to get vehicles back on the road with a Texas inspection.
Cars only lasted so long before I found Real Estate where I found my ultimate passion. With my background in sales and the entrepreneur mindset that allowed me to be successful so many times before, once again I started thriving in Real Estate with the help of my team. I came across my current business partner through mutual friends. It’s been a real benefit working together and we have big plans for the new year in 2020.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You’ve heard it before but the road to success is never a smooth or easy road. After all, the smooth easy path of least resistance is in an office taking orders. There were many times along the way that the expenses and costs of running a business beat out the return on investment. The biggest way you can minimize this is consistency. Over time if you have a successful business model the overall outcome should be income. Knowing the result of what you’re looking to accomplish before you start helps keep you on the right track.
