Meet Sandra Iniesta of Pura Sandia Designs in NW Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Iniesta.

Sandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got into designing t-shirts first because I’ve always been into arts and crafts from a young age. I can remember scrapbooking as a kid to tie-dying shirts and bedazzling anything and everything. A few years ago, I received a cricut cutting machine from my husband for Christmas and immediately started watching how-to videos on YouTube. I made us both t-shirts, and then requests started coming in from family members and friends to make other things such as personalized blankets, mugs, cups, etc.. At that point, it made sense to start a business for me. This is nothing like what I do professionally, working in the Oil and Gas industry, does not allow for a creative outlet like crafting, which allows me to express myself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A challenge that I have enjoyed is creating new and innovative designs to separate myself from everyone else. I often get requests for custom orders, but I enjoy it when people take an interest in personal designs that I have made on my own.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in making personalized gifts such as custom t-shirts, milestone blankets, custom mugs and tumblers. Although I cater to everyone, many of my designs have a strong Latina influence due to my background. I am new enough to this industry to realize that I have a lot to learn, but I’ve done it long enough that I am confident in my abilities and have a strong desire to improve in my craft.

What were you like growing up?
I was a normal kid growing up, I loved listening to No Doubt, Sublime, and N’Sync and could always be found in my room listening to music and working on some project. From a young age, I loved coloring, painting, and bedazzling anything I could get my hands on.
