Meet Sasha Lawson of Snooty Shoppe in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Lawson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sasha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After high school, I wasn’t sure of my next steps but I knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted the flexibility to be able to do whatever I wanted, such as setting my own days and hours of operation. I attended a local cosmetology school and quickly lost interest. In 2010, I decided to pursue music. I relocated to Houston to attend the Art Institute in hopes of becoming an audio engineer. Again, I lost interest. I then found myself between jobs. I knew I had to become my own boss but still, I wasn’t quite sure of what I wanted to do.

In 2014, I enrolled in school once again. This time for business management. I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about entrepreneurship. At this point, I felt like I had enough knowledge to start my own business. It was now 2016. Everything started to fall into place. I randomly came across an ad offering an eyelash extension course at San Jacinto Community College cosmetology department. I’d heard about eyelash extensions in the past but never had I thought of doing eyelashes for a living. I tried several types of eyelashes on myself but eyelash extensions looked extremely natural. I started my research and became obsessed.

At first, I was discouraged because of the numerous career changes I’d made in the past, so I kept everything a secret from friends and family. I wasn’t even sure if I could afford to pay for school again. Nor was I sure that I could continue working my full-time job while attending school full time. I finally made up my mind to enroll anyway. I was eager. The first time I tried to enroll, the classes filled quickly. I waited another semester, and the classes were full again, immediately. I was so frustrated but I knew this meant that the eyelash extension industry was growing rapidly. I wanted a piece of the pie. The third time was a charm. It was one of the best decisions of my life! I am now a licensed lash tech.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Without the struggle, the good times wouldn’t be appreciated. I was born and raised in a small town of Arkansas. Naturally, I had a hard time adjusting to Houston. It took nearly ten years to get to where I am. Two months after completing my lash course, I was fired from my job. Deep down, I was happy. This was a sign! It was time to take a leap of faith. I had nothing to lose. I used my last paycheck for the tools and products needed. Since I had an extra 40 hours per week now, I took the time to practice. I needed to perfect my craft. I knew each client would be like a walking billboard. I decided to start my business from home. Most of my clientele were friends of friends. Word of mouth is as powerful as social media. My clientele started to grow before my eyes. I took another leap and found a private office space for rent. I now have a licensed studio that I can proudly call my sanctuary.

Snooty Shoppe – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Snooty Shoppe specializes in classic eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions are adhered strand by strand to each natural lash to prevent them from sticking together. This creates a more natural look. Extensions are styled to fit your personality and eye shape. Because women have the world to conquer each day, I like to keep beauty affordable and comfortable by creating a zen atmosphere. Future plans are to expand Snooty Shoope. I wish to provide more services such as skincare, laser hair removal, and body contouring. Snooty Shoppe will be a one-stop shop that provides all of your beauty needs while also creating jobs for women. This would give me an opportunity to share my knowledge and help others.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Being successful is not just becoming rich and famous. I feel successful simply because I visualized a goal and achieved it. Now, the goal is to make women feel beautiful so success for me is a returning customer or a referral.
