Meet Meru Hunter McMahon of Your Savings Pro in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meru Hunter McMahon.

Meru, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.  My previous professional experience in the corporate world of Supply Chain Management allowed me to expand and develop many of my skills, leading me to what I do now. I acquired and strengthened my skills over the years identifying and delivering savings, improving processes and managing suppliers. Being self-employed as “Your Savings Pro” I love helping businesses to reduce their expenses and recover overcharges, and strongly encourage business owners to take advantage of available specialized tax incentives and provide additional revenue solutions. I value a long-term relationship with my clients and want to bring more value to them by improving their profitability.

In addition to being a business owner, I do volunteer with SCORE to mentor in my area of expertise and basic business needs. SCORE is a volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed nationwide. It is a rewarding experience to help, especially when you see your mentorship is helping them grow and succeed.

Currently, until the end of May 2020, I am running a fundraising campaign “small changes, BIG DIFFERENCE” to assist two small non-profits in my community “Family Promise of Montgomery County and Tri-Country Consumer Foundation” to help those who are struggling to meet their basic needs due to various reasons, i.e mental illness in the family, job loss, battered spouses and most importantly because there are CHILDREN involved.  For more information and support the cause, you can go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/small-changes-BIG-DIFFERENCE.  Together we can make an IMPACT and help others who are going through life challenges.

Besides volunteering to help my community and being able to help save money for others as a career, I implement the same cost-saving strategies in my own life. I love traveling. The traveling opportunities I was fortunate to have, shaped my perspective on the world. Meeting people from different backgrounds taught me that it is important to be open-minded. And even though people come from different backgrounds, I feel all of our life experiences keep us connected. For this reason, I love what I do as it allows me to meet and interact with many more amazing people and add value.

My friends would describe me as persistent in anything I do. I do enjoy: camping, reading, good stand-up comedy, documentaries, and true events based movies are my top selection. I try my best at leading a healthy lifestyle as best as I can, but I admit to struggle like many people and fall off the wagon occasionally. I love to share my set of skills with everyone open to receive it.

I have recently started a podcast called “The Meru Experience” where I discuss “The currency of life” and as much as I love to save money, life is more than money. I discuss various subjects bringing my professional, cultural and personal experiences.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No journey is a smooth road, there are learning curves along the way that I had to overcome, but it is a good thing because facing challenges makes it more fun and makes you a better professional. Only when you are challenged, you push yourself outside of your comfort zone and grow to strengthen your weaknesses.

For me, personally, the most challenging was the marketing and sales side of the business. I am great at what I do when it comes to my expertise, but I wouldn’t say I am “selling it”. However, the reality is it is a big part of running a business. You have to know how to market yourself and have to acquire sales skills in order to let your clients find you and understand they need you before they had to shut down their business or fire employees to make ends meet.

Your Savings Pro – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Your Savings Pro is helping many businesses to identify and reduce expenses, recover overcharges, take advantage of available specialized tax incentives, and provide additional revenue solutions. I call it finding hidden money for my clients they didn’t know they have.

Why should businesses work with me? Because I find my clients hidden money, they didn’t know they have without putting me on their payroll, paying me benefits while leveraging my expertise to bring quick savings and, in addition, save on administrative time for their employees. I provide risk-free analysis, so it is a win-win situation and if there are no savings, there is no cost to my clients.

My background and experiences set me apart because I add value by utilizing my skills and bringing subject matter experts as needed to the projects I am working on. Not only do I work with business owners, but also with executives and professionals whose responsibilities are to bring improvements for their company. They can leverage me to save their time and money while looking like stars to their management and have the opportunity to have an outstanding performance report. I also help individuals by showing them how they can save and improve their hard-earned income.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is identifying my desired goals and reaching them one by one. Interestingly sometimes, while you are trying to reach your goals, you end up meeting another goal that you didn’t even think about. Or vice versa, some goals end up being not that important to measure your success. Success for me is always ’Work In Progress’.
