Meet Shannon Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Jackson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shannon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I would like to say it all started in college. I debated for the longest of what I wanted to major in. After deciding my major of business, I then had to choose between General Management or Entrepreneurship. I always had the vision of being my own boss but at the time I didn’t know what business I would start.

On the other hand, I always pictured myself in the corporate field with my briefcase, classy women suits, and heels. I thought since I didn’t have a business idea off the back I would just work for a company and climb the corporate ladder. With that decision, I chose the area of concentration for my business degree to be Business Administration/General Management. I made up in my mind I was going to be a manager and level up from there. After graduating from college in 2011, I entered two management trainee programs working for two different companies to stick to my plan of being in upper management. It was horrible from the work environment, inconsistency, overbearing co-workers, long hours, and being underpaid. It didn’t quite fit the picture I had in mind.

Of course, I knew I would have to work hard and begin at entry-level but it was a completely different atmosphere than I was willing to accept. I was wrong and this emptiness sent me in search of fulfillment. From there, I became a professional job hopper. Searching for that thing, the one thing that was my idea everything about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I spent years of unfulfillment in work environments I dreaded and completely hated. In a constant state asking myself ” What am I passionate about”? What will give me true fulfillment”? Fast forward to 2018, I decided to pursue my long-time love of blogging. I had got the idea of starting a blog back in 2015 while seeing the impact it had on other influencers’ business. This is when I first learned about starting an online business.

I immersed myself in all things blogging related and never started mines. I just sat on all that researched information scared to start. Worried about who would support me or what others will think because I am taking a different path of what is considered normal. Blogging was something that felt good. I’ve always had a passion for writing and business, so being able to mix the two just felt right. Everything became so much clearer when I decided to take action on my true desires. I started my blog on January 08, 2018 and never looked back. By the end of 2018, I knew I wanted to help others experience the same feeling of following their passion so this is where my “mission” was created. I help women creatives monetize their passion and create a freedom lifestyle with a business they love. Now, I just celebrated my 100th blog post on the blog and I am in the process of creating my very first-course that is going to allow me to scale my blog and serve more people throughout my message. Stay tuned!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not all. Every day is a struggle but I have made the decision of what I want and continue to go after it. Some struggles along the way include; doubting myself on if I can really make a living doing what I love, should I just play it safe and work a 9-5? Will I ever be able to experience the true freedom I teach others to have? I would say the main challenges is staying focused, disciplined and consistent. It is so easy to lose focus when you are scrolling your timeline every day seeing others in business doing better than you. That is when the comparison trap comes about to make feelings of you not being good enough appear.

I know it’s all lies so I continue to plan my work and work my plan. I have grown tremendously in being disciplined and consistent. I am known for getting bored easily, a terrible trait at times. The mundane drives me crazy but I continue to push past it knowing that success requires repetition. Every day is a stretch and a constant decision of who am I becoming to reach my highest potential. There is no testimony without tests right, so I just continue to embrace the suck and do what I am called to do.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
My business is www.shannonljackson.com where I help women creatives monetize their passion while creating a business they love. I specialize in helping women creatives do what they love and get paid in doing so. I run into so many people who think you have to tap into this great business plan or idea to be successful. And that is not the case. I show others how to make an income from their knowledge, talents, interests, gifts, or skillsets. To show you can monetize from what you possess. I think that is what makes me different because I educate on the simplicity of monetizing. You don’t need all the certifications, courses. or workshops to make money. There isn’t anything wrong with investing and educating yourself.

But, I teach people to really hone on the things they love unapologetically and do that repeatedly to get them to where they want to be. I also think what makes me different is because I always tell people to do what they love or what they are passionate about. A lot of people teach others to start a business that is trendy or profitable. I understand to a certain extent, but this way will lead you back to square one. Doing what you are passionate about will not only fulfill you but it will lead you to your purpose which is more than a dollar amount. The ability to serve others from what you desire is priceless.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My criteria and definition of success is having freedom. Freedom to do and go as you please. Freedom in your finances to tithe, buy, save invest, and give back. Success for me is being present, intentional, whole, and fulfilled. I value all those things and that is what success looks like for me. It’s bigger than money, cars, clothes and luxury items. I want to wake up every day in faith, freedom, and fulfillment, that is the bag I am chasing.
