Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Savoy.
Hi Shannon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Four (4) in 2017. My children and I relocated from Honolulu, Hawaii to Houston, Texas just in time for Hurricane Harvey! It was interesting that we lived on an island for almost 5 years and went through smaller storms. We then move to Houston and were greeted with a hurricane of epic proportions! But we made it through!
While in the military, I learned that It takes mental, physical, spiritual tenacity and resolve to make it. That includes business, career, and life in general. These traits carry over into my coaching business here in Houston as well. The military helped hone what was already inside of me. Ethics, core values, Christ, faith, family, honesty, character, integrity, communication, and community are the cornerstones of not only my business but my life as well. When I retired, I worked in corporate America as an IT Project Manager and Configuration Change Manager (CCM) but I knew I was destined for more.
After escaping the clutches of a domestic & interpersonally violent marriage, I knew that I wanted to help others break free and from abuse as well. I am also a survivor of narcissistic family enmeshment, sexual, physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. Today, I am happily married. My husband and two children are loving and very supportive of my endeavors. In 2020, I formed Narc Free Living to help others overcome abuse and break free to live their best lives now – narcissistic-free!
I am a certified life coach, narcissist abuse recovery coach, domestic abuse advocate, speaker, and YouTuber. As the owner, I bring all my skillsets, formal education, inner healing, and life experiences to help run my business and be the best coach that I can be to my clients. Admittedly, I work more hours as CEO, but I love what I do so it doesn’t feel like work!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It is not a smooth road to success in anything in life. You have to ask yourself how bad do you want it. That passion fuels me every day. I want others to be healed and whole. Owning my own business is not all highs. On social media, we only see others’ highlight reels. You don’t see the blood, sweat, and tears that go into building a business from the ground up. There are ups and downs, whether you are an entrepreneur or whether you work a 9 to 5. It is all about navigating & sustaining through the lows and riding the waves of the highs.
Some of the struggles include work, life, and balance. As a small company of fewer than 5 employees currently, I have to learn when to outsource, when to hand a project over to my executive assistant, or when to do it myself. Your business becomes your baby in a sense and it can be hard to place it in the hands of others when your reputation is on the line. As an entrepreneur, I have to make time to rest. I have a crazy work ethic and drive so I have to balance that with time for God, family time, and my time. I had to learn to schedule downtime for me so that I could be the best that I could be.
We’ve been impressed with Narc Free Living, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Narc Free Living® is a life coaching business & ministry that caters to survivors of domestic violence & narcissistic abuse with biblical & practical strategies. I help my clients to identify red flags and helps formulate strategic tactics to recognize, heal, and overcome abusive relationships. Many do not recognize that they are in abusive relationships. I help them understand they are not alone, and they should not bear the shame of abuse.
I am proud of the lives that are being changed in this community. I recently created Chain Breaker University (CBU), an 8-week intensive program formulated to help survivors become thrivers! CBU addresses inner child wounds, trauma bonds, soul ties, discipleship, and much more. CBU is healing holistically: spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, career, business, & personal growth. The program is highly successful and is transforming lives!
My work ethic and heart for helping others are unmatched in my field. That sets me apart from the pack. I always ensure I go above and beyond to provide my clients with a first-class experience. I provide monthly workshops for survivors. As well as weekly survivor support groups, Rock Your Crown events, administrate CBU, teach via YouTube educational live stream videos, and provide virtual & in-person one-on-one & group coaching in dedicated safe spaces.
Through being transparent of my own personal and professional struggles, I show others they are not alone. If I can make it out and thrive – they can too.
What also sets Narc Free Living apart is that I take a holistic coaching approach to overcome abuse. I help my clients realize their worth and help them get back on the path to success. Along with my client’s therapist, I help them formulate their healing team (A-Team). We address the psychological, emotional, physical, financial, sexual, and spiritual aspects of abuse. I help them through rumination, stuck points, isolation, and the pain of abuse. We get to the root of trauma, and abuse, so a transformational mindset shift can truly occur from the inside out. I remind them they are CROWNED!
Here are a few tips:
1. Be authentic. Be YOU. Everyone else is taken.
2. Perfection is overrated and kills creativity.
3. Do everything with excellence but don’t stress!
4. Find your A-Team. Build your network and find your tribe.
5. Never underestimate the power of ONE! It takes one voice. One post. One story to make a huge difference in the lives of others.
How do you think about happiness?
Healing makes me happy. Experiencing inner healing, joy, and peace is the new success. I get to wake up every day and help someone else achieve what I have achieved. Prayer, praise, and worship make me happy. It’s amazing to witness how others are making decisions for their mental health. Money, wealth, and success are awesome, but I can tell you that nothing takes the place of peace. If you are not healed, money cannot buy happiness.
