Today we’d like to introduce you to Shatonna Nelson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was always an advocate of change and empowerment, from a young age. The very first time I began to mentor was at 14 years old. My first year in high school, I was a student ambassador. I always loved to help shape people, help them be comfortable in school and around people. Over the years I continually coached, grew and shaped more as I learned. I originally just focused on giving back by coaching or planning events. I always put things together while working in healthcare to help my patients.
In 2018, I decided to step out on faith and launch my PR company. I had already known many high-profile people from Houston. I either coached their children or met them through humanitarianism. Being known helped me pick up great clients. These include but is not limited to: radio stations such as 953jamz and JJO Radio. Artist like Kat St. John and television networks like, Eyeconic Television Network
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not easy, but I could feel it pulling me even with the struggles I knew I was heading in the right direction. The biggest struggle was stepping out of my comfort zone and doing more administrative work in the hospital, so I could open a business. I got married at a young age and we had two children amazing children, when we split a year ago, it made it hard. I had to manage my time and still make money. The only way for me to have time and money was to work regular hours and pursue my own business. Also, I dealt with an irregular heartbeat and lost a cousin, who I considered a brother. These things made it hard to continue, but I had to believe and keep faith in God and not give up. I learned the importance of diligence.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Finest Hour PR – what should we know?
I’m a Publicist and owner of the company. We do some minimal event coordination. My company specializes in crisis management and brand building.
I am most proud of the fact in the past two years I have been able to work with companies and give our over 5000 pairs of shoes, 1500 backpacks, and allow over 30 low-income children to be a part of organizations such as football and cheer without te cost. So many kids miss out and end up in trouble because of poverty. My PR company can provide details through various media markets to spread the word about events. They help get funding and build these companies who want to be an impact.
I’m happy to be able to help create a brand of giving and change. Some organizations I have worked with include We See Abilities, Hairtyme, and the Lafell group. I’m proud I can be able to provide press and spread the news that has positively changed the community in a major way.
What sets me apart is I have an array of clients. They that include corporate to individuals. I am a military brat, so I have a diverse eye to branding my clients and helping them create a lasting culture because I have been exposed to what many have not.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Of course one person cannot change the world alone. So, my family, friends, the communities who accept me and my clients. Also, to my partners in change: Mythiquer Pickett, Brandon LaFell, the Bennett Foundation, Amber Newman, and LeMarcus Newman for always supporting and encouraging me to keep going and to be a positive PR change in the area as well as assisting me.
