Meet Shaurice McKinney of #ExpressionsOfSHO in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaurice McKinney.

Shaurice, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started writing short stories and poetry when I was about 13 years old. The writing was my release from my very different and dysfunctional childhood. It became my escape to write about the downside of being a middle child and often feeling lonely. As I got older, I began to take my writing more serious and write about situations and challenges that we women had to face that were not pretty. In 2017, I created #ExpressionsOfSHO, which is a platform that aims light of and encourages women to talk about the unspoken truths that we face daily. I am self-care advocate whose mission is for women to genuinely and intensely fall in love with themselves each and every day. #ExpressionsOfSHO gives me the relief to know that they are not alone in the battles they face, even when they have always thought that they were.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has NOT been an easy road at all! I can’t even begin to tell you how many sleepless nights, and tears soaked pillows cries I have had. #ExpressionsOfSHO is a reflection of me because I have to be 100% transparent and that sometimes can still be painful when I discuss issues that have wounds that are still fresh. However, my voice and my testimonies help so many women that I’ve come too far to quit. They depend on me, I have so much in store for the future!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
#ExpressionsOfSHO Is a platform aim to encourage and uplift women to speak about their unspoken truths of life. We live in a society that criticizes us for have anything less than a perfect life, while that concept has silenced millions of women. #ExpressionsOfSHO mission is to encourage women to live their truths and their harsh transparency in the hopes that they can fall in love with their imperfections. I aim to shed light and encourage women that it “it’s okay to not be okay all the time.” I’ve created a community that allows women a sense of relief, and also a foundation that they are NOT alone. There are women who all have some of the same traumatic experiences and challenges and one voice alone can break the silence of millions of women! I’m most proud of #ExpressionsOfSHO because it allows me to transform women lives in areas they didn’t even know was damaged. I have the honor of speaking up for women who have been silenced and now are able to break free from chains that held her hostage for so long. What set #ExpressionsOfSHO apart from others is that it’s a community of “ugly truths, damaged souls, traumatic experiences, etc.” which is not always highlighted. It reassures women that they are not alone when the whole world tries their best to keep them isolated. Souls are being changed, encouraged, and uplifted every day which is an amazing feeling that can’t be described!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up… hmmm. Chile Shaurice was LOUD! And bossy! Lol, I use to play teacher with my stuffed animals. (that’s when I knew I would love to lead!) I was the all-around fun, loving, always laughing child, but I often sit back and realize, I was very much misunderstood. My personality was big and bold and I was always trying to obtain new information to further educate myself. That’s where my love of reading came from. I would LOVE going over my grandmother’s house and talk to her for hours! I have considered an old soul growing up and never really fit in with kids around me… I always knew I was different but I couldn’t understand just how until I got older.
