Meet Shayla Moore of Brentley Brothers Logistics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Moore.

Hi Shayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Shayla Moore I am originally from Pine Bluff, AR. I am a mom, boss, and social butterfly to all that I meet. I am a hard worker who owns a Freight Broker business called Brentley Brothers Logistics Inc., a clothing boutique called Shay La Shay Boutique. As well as an AAU Basketball team called Houston Ball Kings. I enjoy working with the youth. I have two sons that play sports and I love the game and have always watched or played. I am a divorced single mom and I wanted to start a program that would promote kids’ skills and training without being political. I have been a part of a few teams that did not always have the kid’s best interest in mind so I definitely wanted to build a program that did just that.

I have lived in a few places in my adult life I went to college at The University of Louisiana at Monroe, where I was the first African American sophomore to become Homecoming Queen in 2001. I also pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at ULM in the spring of 2002 but I later transferred and graduated college with a BA degree from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2005. I received my master’s degree from Webster University out of St. Louis. Besides Houston, I also lived in Atlanta, GA but nothing compared to my love for Houston TX.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not always been smooth. I have faced many obstacles in life. But with the help of God, I overcame them all. I work in a male-dominated field with trucking and although women are in the field, and are doing well it still has its challenges. When I created Houston Ball Kings Organization I had a mission to create a great team of Boys and Girls basketball for 9U-17u that I can see go to college and beyond. We are adding competition cheerleading to the mix as well. But In the basketball world, it has been a little bit of a challenge as well because most coaches are male former pro athletes. So that gives them an advantage at times but we have played and beat some of those teams. I work with a great team of people males and females to motivate and train our team. So I believe it’s faith and hard work that allows you to push forward and to succeed. My advice is go for the goal and work hard until you get it!

We’ve been impressed with Brentley Brothers Logistics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What you should know about Brentley Brothers Logistics is that I created this business during the pandemic I didn’t know how things would grow and develop but it did. I started out working alone then grew to having 11 freight agents under me. Brentley Brothers Logistics is a family name and I wanted to keep my family name alive. I wanted to own and create a business that would be a legacy for my sons.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is God first, family second, I love God and I feel that I would not be where I am today without God. Then my family helped  mold me into who I am today. My mom was a huge motivator for me because she when back to school at age 50 to get her doctorate degree after everything that she had gone through. She and my children have been my greatest support.
