Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Garcia BSN, RN. She and her team share her story with us below.
So, before we jump into specific questions, can you give us some background on Shelby’s story?
MIA Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Registered Nurse, Shelby Garcia BSN, RN, was born and raised from Dallas, TX. She received her first Bachelors of Science degree from UT Austin.
After graduating and gaining her foundation for her love of science, she returned to school to receive her Bachelors of Nursing at Texas Tech. Shelby has practiced at many hospitals across Texas and had extensive training to become the best nurse possible in many fields. She started her nursing career in the Trauma Surgical IMU at Ben Taub Hospital. While trauma is fun, her passion for health, beauty, and fitness led Shelby to compete for pageants. That is the moment the love for aesthetics began. Being able to combine and manipulate beauty with science is heaven on earth for this nurse.
As the aesthetic nurse, Shelby believes that her patients should be satisfied from the moment they walk into the building until they leave. She loves to give one to one client interaction to really understand what their wants and needs are. Shelby is responsible for the aesthetic and surgical consultations, pre and post op care, and certified to inject Botox, Dysport and the many brands of dermal fillers. One of her goals is to advocate for clients for a conservative enhancement to their natural facial features whether it is with our laser services, injections or surgical procedures.
Shelby, has it been a smooth road?
Oh no! This road was very difficult. Being a new nurse and putting my self out there to many businesses was tough. I had to mentally prepare for the journey. I needed to endlessly continue to believe in myself, my work and my knowledge. I prayed every day and believed that one day there will be a surgeon who would love to have me as their nurse forever.
One of the biggest struggles was the limitation of responsibilities businesses were offering. I have a well-rounded experience in the hospital setting as well as clinic. I am trained to be able to step into the OR with the surgeon and go inject some fillers or Botox, etc. after surgery if I needed to. Finding a doctor that believed in my talent that much to let me where the many hats an aesthetic nurse has was my goal.

We are the largest medical center in the world. There’s more opportunity in healthcare here than anywhere else in the world. We are also the 4th largest city with the low cost of living compared to major cities of our size. So absolutely we recommend starting out here for the reasons above.
