Meet Shelley Cooley, Houston Real Estate Agent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelley Cooley.

Shelley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2009, I was working as an educator and decided to start a side buisness as a Home Stager. I was introduced by a mutual friend to a Houston Area Realtor, Jimmy Franklin, who was looking to hire a stager to assist homeowners with getting their homes ready for the market. This side gig as a Home Stager is what ultimately led me into the Real Estate industry. In 2013, after serving as an educator for 15 years, I Ieft teaching and joined The Franklin Team as a full-time Business Development Specialist. After serving in the buiness develpment position for over 3 years and working as The Franklin Team’s sole stager, I decided I was ready for the next challenge. In 2016, I set out to get my license and transitioned from the Business Development role and Home Stager, to a full-time licensed agent. My first full year as an agent, I closed 72 transactions, and quickly realized, I had found my passion! Fast forward to today, I’m now in my 6th year serving as a Realtor and I couldn’t love it more. I have closed nearly 500 tranactions and have met some incredible people on this journey. Many clients have become life long friends and many friends have become life long clients. I’ve grown and accomplished a lot in a short period of time, and I am super proud to have been named 2021 STAR Realtor of the Year. Serving others fills my love bucket daily!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t say the road has always been smooth. There have been times I’ve struggled with difficult transactions, but I’ve had great teammates who have been amazing mentors along the way. And I’ve learned that it’s the difficult transactions that teach you the most. I like to think that practice makes progress, and based on the number of transactions I’ve done in the past 5+ years, I’ve had alot of practice! My goal is to be the most knowledgeable and best agent I can be for my clients.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My husband, Chris Cooley and I are a team within a team. We market ourselves as The Cooley Team, but we are on The Franklin Team, powered by eXp Realty. Chris and I work our transactions separately, but pretty much talk Real Estate 24/7, and at the end of the day, we are a team! The Franklin Team has been a great place for us to craft our skills as experienced agents. We work a lot with the builder community, helping buyers get into new construction homes, as well as helping buyers purchase preowned homes. We also spend a great deal of time assisting sellers and putting them in the best position possible to net maximum value for their home.

For those who know us, they know we strive to be professionals. Our goal is to assist as many families as we can throughout the year, and provide them with a level of service that they would not get elsewhere. We are dedicated to assisting our clients each step of the way, from contract to close. We understand that we are handling most peoples’ largest investment, and we take our roles as Real Estate Advisors very seriously. Aside from serving our clients, we also take time to advise and mentor newer agents. We know what it’s like to be starting out as a new agent, so helping other agents is something we really enjoy!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I belive in hard work, grit and determination. I also believe in having a positive mind-set. Staying in activity and constantly looking to learn, pivot and improve are key to being successful in the Real Estate industry.
