Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Ellis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Simone. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a kid, I knew I wanted to be a dentist. I got the opportunity to go to the dentist with my dad to see him get a tooth pulled at the age of 7 and I thought it was the coolest thing. I decided to follow my natural love for science and pursue that dream. My parents were very supportive of my ambitions and drive and sent me to college at the Xavier University of Louisiana because they were known to help minorities get into medical and dental school. I never had a plan b, so I knew I had to make it work. I was fortunate to find my passion so early on and wanted to change the face of dentistry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an entrepreneur, and minority in both race and gender in dentistry has definitely presented challenges that many people may not face. Even in the beginning of my dream of becoming a dentist, I had to face the stereotypes of what that looked like. But I also know that challenges and obstacles can be handled in the best way possible with having an amazing support team and spirit. Understanding how to run a business, market the business, empower people working the business and continuing to have a vision for the business has been the greatest challenges but each day I pride learning new things.
Smile Design Studios, Family and Cosmetic Dentistry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a general dentist that has a passion for cosmetic dentistry. We specialize in smile makeovers which is my absolute favorite thing to do. We see families as well so it is great to see people of all ages. I believe what sets Smile Design Studios apart from our competitors is our attention to detail and our customer experience. People who were scared of the dentist before leaving our office feeling great about their visit. My team is exceptional when it comes to patient care and comfort.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is a concept that is ever evolving. I believe that people who are always striving and learning to be better never truly feel completely successful but they feel they are making a difference. When I feel like I have accomplished a goal, there is an element of success that is present but I always look to evaluate that accomplishment and figure out how to continue to improve.
