Meet Sonyia Graham, Author in Spring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonyia Graham.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2006, I set out to do a Susan Komen Breast Cancer walk with a friend and I had no idea this day would be life-changing for me. A mere conversation after a few miles revealed that I was not the only one that was unsure of who they were at this time in my life or felt they had disappeared. This began to play like a broken record stuck on the same tune for many of my colleagues and friends. So, on this day, I realized I was not alone and this was not an isolated experience. I now knew research needed to be done to learn more about this epidemic of Passive Assimilation.

I really formed a deeper sense of responsibility on this subject once I spoke to a group of 40 high school girls. I described some of the characteristics of this epidemic to them. The last question I asked the girls was who wanted to be like their mother? To my surprise, only 2 girls raised their hands mostly because they felt their mother’s fit the description of this epidemic of not doing things for their own happiness and wellbeing. The girls knew their mothers loved them however they did not feel their mother’s loved themselves. This event showed that the very sacrifices some parents make tend to have the exact opposite effect on their children especially preteens and teenagers. This blew me away and fueled my need to learn more and bring awareness to stop this epidemic. After deciding this needed to be a book, I initially thought it would be for women, but, the more I came to understand this epidemic and assemble the research, I realized this has nothing to do with gender. What determines whether or not someone becomes a victim of this epidemic is the role a person -male or female- choose to take in their relationship. It’s Time to Uncover Your Original Blueprint which is the first book in the Original Blueprint Series was written to promote self- rediscovery, self-empowerment, self-love, and self-awareness in partnership with God.

On this current journey, I was blessed to have an amazing turn out for “A Night at the Gallery Book Launch Soiree” which was held at the beautiful Bella Vetro Mosaic Art Gallery in Aug. Honored to be an author participant at the upcoming 2018 National Black Book Festival Oct 25-27 in Houston. I am looking forward to traveling the world and reaching people through all media modalities to bring awareness of my coined phrase “Passive Assimilation.” This epidemic is why graveyards are full of purpose today. If you are open to the message in this book and do the work you too can rediscover the real you and your purpose.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not. Initially, due to fear of exposure and public speaking, I decided to make this a website. I teamed up with my best friend Ilona to make this happen. It was an amazing site with all the bells and whistles just not what God wanted so it never took off until I decided to trust God and make it a book which is what he showed me and to go speak about it. During this eleven year journey, I had to do the work in this book myself. Through this process, it was painful to come to the realization that I had to accept some of the responsibility of disappearing and why I was unhappy.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Author, Sonyia Graham story. Tell us more about the business.
I am honored for the opportunity to share this book with the world and most proud of the feedback I am hearing on the book from men and women.

Feedback such as:
1. It is very easy to read.
2. It draws you in.
3. The book is very hard to put down.
4. It’s like a spanking and a loving hug at the same time.
5. I have been asked if I will be making this a documentary. I think this would be very powerful.
6. It made someone consider if their mate is experiencing this.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
My life is faith based so I do not look for luck, just blessing and lessons. Thankful for God’s love, grace, mercy and that he makes me new every day. This is what gets me out of the bed every day not luck.
