Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Kirkland, Chase Patten and Jessica Hernandez.
Stacey, Chase and Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Stacey and myself started with just doing YouTube videos. We really liked the concept of being able to talk with people on Instagram live or do short bits on stories to talk about our likes and dislikes. Given that we represent a few of life’s new social norms (single parents, working women, single, a minority), we wanted a platform to speak on it. We met Chase on Instagram. He does a lot of photography and video projects in his spare time and us liking his work we reached out and all became friends. Stacey and myself finally decided in February that we wanted to start a YouTube channel. While collectively we had a lot we wanted to talk about, we also felt we needed the other male perspective to our channel. We asked Chase if he wouldn’t mind joining us and thus a podcast was born. We are on episode 19 of our first season and have came along ways from our first episode. There was a lot to learn in video, our sound, how we talk, the messages we wanted to deliver but we continue as a cast to make changes, invite guests, come up with topics and mostly just try to give people an authentic and funny show.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has really been a labor of love. We all love what we are doing with the podcast and over the past few months we have really learned a lot as far as our audience, content creation, and making sure we are consistent. The only struggle we have is just coordinating our schedules to make sure we can film. Which isn’t really a struggle but just a product of us living our authentic lives. Stacey and myself are single moms, with full-time jobs and Chase is a very work oriented individual with plenty of hobbies. All this combined, though being a little bit of a struggle but also giving us our content to give to our audience on a real, sincere, and humorous level.
Please tell us about Houston, I’m Just Sayin’ – what should we know?
Stacey is our unconfirmed R&B guru, though more importantly, she is usually our host. She helps to keep our show running smoothly and puts together our sets. She also provides a very contagious laugh that you will most likely here in ALL episodes.
Chase also calls himself the resident fake philosopher. Although if you listen to any episode, you will see that Chase is indeed a man of many words but IS in fact our real life smooth like whiskey sounding philosopher. He does all our video editing, lighting and makes sure we sound good.
Jessica (myself) I provide a lot of my experiences. If there is a scenario I have mostly likely experienced it, bad dates (plenty), tips on how to potty train (got that too), recommendations for first date patio bars (right here). I also do a lot of the media. I make sure that our content and media go to all the platforms to reach our audiences.
What Sets Us Apart?
Do you ever notice that some of the most candid conversations happen between just you and a few friends? We all have those specific friends that we feel free to just talk, debate, even cap on. Well, that is our show. “Houston, I’m Just Sayin.’ is about a group of sometimes like-minded, unqualified, funny individual’s; giving advice, talking out a bad date, or just sharing a story. We really try to deliver on topics everyone wants to talk about but maybe they just don’t feel comfortable, they’re afraid some doesn’t share the same opinion, or maybe they just want a good laugh. Relationships is a hot topic for us! We love to review items, food, and talk to “The People of Houston” whenever possible. I think every podcast works to have that “on-set” chemistry and by watching the show, we believe that people will believe the chemistry, love what they hear and appreciate our honesty. There are many pod-casts but, there is only one kingcallenp, jessicalola51, stase_ari, and one show “Houston, I’m Just Sayin.’
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Anyone who listens, watches, or shares our videos deserves to be recognized. Podcasting is hard because lets face it. Who are we to tell you what to do in your life? But, if you do allow us to share our experiences, maybe you laugh at a story, tell your friend to go listen to “Houston, I’m Just Sayin’” to learn about some new words. That is why we continue to do what we do. So, as long as we have a few listeners, our growing list of fans, our support. We will continue to put out our episodes. In this new and exciting time for “Houston, I’m Just Sayin” we contribute our success to all our current and future listeners.
