Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Gutierrez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hello my name is Stefanie, I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico and I arrived in this country six years ago, getting here was very difficult for me because everything was very different for me, I had to start from scratch but I never gave up. Arriving here without knowing any English, without knowing the culture of this country, arriving here was starting from scratch, starting a totally different and totally new life, it was not easy, it was difficult at the beginning but I always gave my best and never I gave up. Now six years later, I am still here throwing all the desire of the world and surpassing me day by day, always learning new things.
Has it been a smooth road?
Getting to where I am now has not been easy because there was everything on this road, there were even people who did not believe in me, said that I would not go far that I would not become someone in life and that I could not overcome myself. But with the passage of time, I showed them the opposite and fought for everything in spite of everything. Nowadays, all those people who didn’t believe in me now congratulate me and talk about me in a good way because I surprised everyone by demonstrating that I could and that I was stronger than everything.
I think you should always be positive and fight for everything you want, because we have to remember that everything is always alive and everything is possible and we always have to fight to get everything we want, no matter what it costs.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Makeup By Stef and Beauty Photos story. Tell us more about the business.
What I would like to tell you is about my photography and makeup skills; I remember that the first photo session I did was when I was 10 years old, I remember that I had an iPad and with it I was always taking photos and trying to edit them with some applications I had on my iPad, I remember that the first session I did was I made a cousin and I remember that she was delighted with her photos and began to know that I took photos and everyone said that I was a great photographer and had a lot of talent for photography, so from my 10 years I started taking photos, making sessions of all kinds, I think it’s something that I carry in my blood because my dad is a photographer and I think I learned from the best teacher, my father. Today, thanks to all my efforts, I have my own photography studio and my small photography business that bears the name of “beauty photos”. They will ask why that name or because I chose it, well I think that photography is something where you can see the beauty of all kinds of people and nature, simply photography is one of my great passions and photography will always leave us with good memories forever.
Like another of my great passions is makeup, I started to make up at age 14 only makeup my eyelashes and using lipgloss, at age 16 I started practicing more trying to make up more full glam, I remember being always watching tutorials on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook; I started practicing and practicing more and more, at the beginning I was not a great teacher in makeup but as the years went by (two to be exact) I learned a lot more. Now I have my makeup account on Facebook and Instagram “makeup by stef”. And I want to continue learning more and become professional in this makeup. One of my big dreams in this is to have my own makeup studio and give private lessons and to be able to certify girls in professional makeup, also another of my big dreams is to have my own line of eyelashes, I know it’s something big to think about but I will fight hard to make this dream come true.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry as a makeup artist and as a photographer, I really do see them as a big business, I know if I keep working hard just like I had done I will get to where I want to get.
