Meet Stephanie Looney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Looney.

Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I use to ride with my mom to the Beauty Shop that was owned by my Aunt Trina. She did my granny’s hair & my mom’s hair back in the day. I loved the beauty shop. I would watch Trina’s customers go in and out all day & half the night. At 10 or 11, I watched my mom braid my dad’s hair until I caught on, then I became his hair braider. I became fully engulfed in doing hair about ten years ago when I graduated high school & started college. I ventured into different styles and techniques like quick weaves and sew-ins. 5 or 6 years ago is when I realized that I had what it took, and I was really coming into myself as far as hair. I was making a lot of money even with me only doing hair three days of the week because I worked a full time job as well. I love doing hair giving a person a bomb look and then smiling so hard in amazement sends me on a high that I remember even days later. I came up with the name EnTheCut in reference to me being at home and comfortable while doing hair. I also sell Brazilian bundles as part of my business. My website is scheduled to be up mid-March, so my clients can buy hair and book all in one visit.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some things do get frustrating such as customers not understanding why I use the online booking system: it helps keep my day organized. Altogether though, my journey has been a rather smooth journey. I adapt to personalities quickly, so I deal with people rather well, which makes this whole business easy on me.

Please tell us about your business.
I do sew-ins & quick-weaves, traditional, closures, and frontals. I do braids, knotless braids, box braids, feed ins, cornrows, and tribal braids. I hand stitch wigs & I’m currently taking lessons to learn to stitch wigs by sewing machine for quicker turnover times and longevity. I also do invisible ponytails as well as genie ponytails. I don’t have one special thing that I specialize in because I love all hair, so I try to keep myself up to date on all the different hair trends.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am something like a perfectionist, so everything I do has to be to my liking before I even let a client out of my seat. I believe that my client’s hair should look like how I would wear my hair, and I do not want to be walking around with my hair messed up. I believe that quality alone makes me successful.
