Meet Stephanie Waggoner of SWAGG Designs in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Waggoner.

Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It’s funny to think back to a time when I wasn’t crafting. When I was younger, my dad and I had a running Buzz & Woody comic that we created and MAILED to each other all the way through college. I loved the process of drawing the pictures and creating a new twist to the ever-growing storyline.

Once I graduated from college, I began my teaching career. While teaching, I met a group of ladies that had the same passion as I did… scrapbooking. For over 14 years now, we get together at local scrapbook retreats to create beautiful memoirs that decoratively display events in our lives that we are wanting to remember.
I believe that these things are what let to the start of SWAGG Designs.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So, here’s the thing… when I started SWAGG Designs, it was totally just to design and make custom vinyl shirts for friends and family. However, when my home business started to take off, it required more and more of my time. I had to start looking at ways to balance being a mom and wife, and still leave enough time to run SWAGG Designs. This did require making working business hours, and knowing when to stop working in order to sit down & play a few rounds of CLUE with my kids.

Please tell us about SWAGG Designs.
I believe that SWAGG Designs was created because of my love to craft and my desire to make personalized things for my children. When they were older, I started to make holiday shirts for my kids and all of a sudden I started getting teachers at their school asking me to make them school/holiday shirts. That was 2 years ago.

I feel that SWAGG Designs is unique because 100% of what I sell is handmade. I not only design & create shirts, tumblers and household goods with vinyl, but I pride myself on the quality of the items I am selling.

SWAGG Design has recently added a new custom craft by introducing Wood SWAGG sign parties. I started teaching these classes as a way to step out of my comfort zone and to add a new creative element to SWAGG Designs. I truly love seeing what these amazing women & youth can create while implementing the step-by-step instructions I provide.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I were to start over again, would I do anything differently? If I’m being totally honest, I don’t think I would. I love how my business has grown. I believe that if I would have started SWAGG Designs before 2016 I wouldn’t have been able to give it the dedication needed to be successful.
